The Early Mythic+ Picks for WoW Midnight Season 2 Week 1
Blood Death Knight remains the leading tank, while Holy Priest and Restoration Druid moved ahead of Discipline Priest after recent tuning.

World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ is scheduled to begin on August 18 in North America and August 19 in Europe. Ahead of that launch, the first Week 1 tier list points to several strong choices across the tank, healer, and DPS roles while accounting for the first Season 2 tuning pass.
The rankings are an opening snapshot rather than a permanent answer. High-level testing, especially in +20 and higher keys, was limited before the list was prepared, so the order may change once players begin pushing live dungeons. Players planning their opening upgrades can pair these rankings with our Midnight Season 2 gear chart for a clearer route through the early reward tracks.
Midnight Season 2 rankings at a glance
The chart divides the available specs into S, A+, A, B, and C tiers. The most notable movement is not limited to the top row: several healer placements improved, while tuning pushed some DPS specs lower without removing them from consideration.
A video breakdown of the Week 1 rankings is also available:
Blood Death Knight still leads the tanks
Blood Death Knight remains the strongest Mythic+ tank for both damage and survivability, although another round of nerfs has reduced its lead. The spec was not fully tested in the highest key range before launch, leaving room for live runs to provide a tougher measure of its performance.
Guardian Druid continues to move upward and may be one of the quieter picks for the new season. Its damage is lower than Blood’s, but its toolkit and survivability give it a dependable foundation for difficult keys.
If Blood Death Knight receives another nerf, Protection Paladin or Guardian Druid could move into the top spot. Vengeance Demon Hunter remains a serious option, but its lower toughness makes it less attractive for high-key pushing right now.
Holy Priest and Restoration Druid gain ground
The largest healer movement came near the bottom of the rankings. Buffs to Holy Priest and Restoration Druid, combined with nerfs to Discipline Priest, placed both specs ahead of Discipline.
Priest players will likely favor Holy unless Discipline’s external support tools prove essential for a particular key. The choice may come down to whether a group needs that extra utility more than Holy’s improved healing profile.
Mistweaver received a healing-per-second buff that reinforces its A-tier placement, but it still does not move ahead of Restoration Shaman. Mistweaver is now close to Preservation, with Preservation holding a slight edge while asking more from the player behind it.
Arcane holds S tier as several DPS specs move
Arcane Mage keeps its S-tier position despite the recent tuning pass. Concerns around the changes did not translate into a major loss of standing, leaving Arcane among the clearest early DPS choices.
Havoc Demon Hunter has received more nerfs for the third consecutive week. It still looks strong, though its placement may receive another review after the first week of live keys.
Destruction Warlock moved from A+ to A without taking a direct nerf. The change reflects buffs to the specs around it, which made Destruction’s relative position weaker. Without a strong group buff of its own, Warlock needs to stay ahead in damage to justify a slot.
Balance Druid remains in A+ despite receiving some nerfs. Mark of the Wild, poison and curse removal, and Soothe continue to give the spec a broad utility package that supports its placement.
Hybrid group setups may define the opening weeks
The early expectation was that caster-heavy groups would dominate the season, but the smaller distance between the top specs leaves more room for different compositions. Possible combinations include Arms Warrior, Elemental Shaman, and Arcane Mage, or Rogue, Elemental Shaman, and Arms Warrior.
Future tuning may favor physical-focused or caster-focused groups, so the first week should reveal more than any pre-launch ranking can. The list is designed to change as dungeon results and balance updates provide more information.
How the Week 1 tier list is judged
DPS placements consider raw damage output, each specialization’s utility, and the damage profiles expected in the Season 2 dungeons. The same broad context informs the role discussions, with survivability and support tools carrying as much weight as raw numbers for tanks and healers.
Tier lists remain an opinion based on the state of tuning at a particular moment. The Week 1 rankings should give players a practical starting point, but later balance passes and higher-key testing can change which specs earn the most invitations.
