Take-Two Says Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Orders Are Off to a Strong Start

Pre-orders opened June 25, but cancellations mean Take-Two has not said how much of its $1.39 billion in quarterly net bookings came from Grand Theft Auto VI.

Grand Theft Auto VI has made a strong early impression with buyers, according to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. During the company’s latest earnings call, Zelnick described the game’s pre-order performance as exceptional, though he did not provide a specific sales figure.

Zelnick also called the response “unprecedented and astonishing,” saying Take-Two had never seen a pre-order level like it at the company or across the industry.

Take-Two reported $1.39 billion in net bookings for the quarter, a figure covered in Variety’s earnings report. The quarter ran from April 1 through June 30, while Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders opened on June 25. That means the total includes only a short slice of the game’s activity and also covers Take-Two’s broader catalog.

That makes the number impossible to treat as a standalone GTA 6 pre-order total. Take-Two did not disclose how much of the $1.39 billion came from Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game. Players can also cancel pre-orders before launch, so the eventual value of the campaign cannot be determined from the early quarterly result. The company did, however, point to better-than-expected performance from both the NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto franchises.

Take-Two’s revenue for the same quarter reached $1.53 billion. Net bookings and revenue are separate measures, so the two figures should not be read as a direct count of Grand Theft Auto VI sales.

Grand Theft Auto VI editions are priced at $80 and $100

Take-Two also defended Rockstar’s pricing for the game. The standard edition costs $80, while the ultimate edition costs $100. Zelnick said both options were attracting buyers, giving players a choice based on their budgets and how much content they want from the higher-priced version.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch plan remains unchanged

Take-Two continues to target November 19, 2026, for Grand Theft Auto VI. The current plan also includes an extended look at the game scheduled for August 27, giving Rockstar another major promotional moment before launch.

In its letter to shareholders, Take-Two reiterated its Fiscal 2027 net bookings outlook of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion. Fiscal 2026 ended at $6.72 billion, but the forecast covers the full fiscal year and multiple games rather than Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders alone.

With pre-orders only beginning near the end of the reported quarter, Take-Two’s comments suggest the game’s early sales activity has started well before its release. The company has not yet shared a full pre-order breakdown, so the size of that opening response will remain unclear until more detailed figures arrive.

Take-Two’s early numbers leave plenty to discuss. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow along on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
