Space Marine 2 Confirms the Apothecary Class for Patch 17 in Early 2027
Patch 15 will arrive on October 1 with Chaos Siege, Crucible, the One-Handed Thunder Hammer, and more.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will add the Apothecary class with Patch 17 in the first quarter of 2027, giving the game’s Year 3 roadmap its clearest reveal yet. Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment confirmed the class in their September Community Update, while also setting Patch 15’s second-anniversary launch for October 1.
The studio had already outlined Chaos Siege Mode, Crucible, the Tactical rework, and the One-Handed Thunder Hammer in an earlier Patch 15 overview. September’s announcement adds the release date, fills in more of the anniversary update, and lays out the content planned beyond 2026.
The Apothecary leads the 2027 plans
Patch 17 will introduce the Apothecary in early 2027. More details about its abilities and equipment will come later, but the class will receive its own Champion skin in the update after launch, following the same approach used for the Techmarine.
Year 3 will also bring new Operations, weapons, and reworks for several core systems. Two extra customization features are being prepared outside the main roadmap. One is described as expanding customization options by 33%, while the other will test the game’s streaming technology.
Five new Cosmetic and Champion Packs are planned across the year. The final pack remains redacted for now, and the update offers no further details about what it contains.
Patch 15 arrives on October 1
Chaos Siege Mode will let players take control of Heretic Astartes as they fight for Avarax. Tyranids, Imperial forces, and Space Marines will oppose the assault, with two sectors available at launch and a third already in development.
Crucible will give endgame players a class-based challenge built around personal Penances. Players will speak with the Chapter Chaplain on the Battle Barge, choose debuffs, and earn Crucible XP toward the Lamenters armor set. Progress belongs to the class being used, and each class has its own Penances and rewards. Six tiers will increase the difficulty, with Tier 1 requiring at least 2 Penances and Tier 3 requiring at least 6.
The One-Handed Thunder Hammer will be available to the Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine classes. It is designed as a fast weapon that can be charged for powerful area attacks.
Three Heroic weapons will join the update. The Power Axe gets a Frost Axe variant that builds charges through Executions, the One-Handed Thunder Hammer gets a Power Maul variant with a charge-based Ground Slam, and the Auto Bolt Rifle receives an Iron Hands variant with a firing rate that decreases during sustained fire.
The Tactical rework will change most of the class’s Skill Tree and open new melee builds. Equipping the Power Axe, One-Handed Thunder Hammer, or Power Sword will remove the Primary Weapon, while a new Signature Perk will replace Signal Jammer and allow a Bolt Rifle to occupy the Secondary Weapon slot. Wargear Sharing 2.2 will also add a third Wargear slot and allow players to equip capes, tabards, and Iron Halos.
New armor pieces will include the Black Templar double shoulder pad, Mark VI Corvus, Iron Halo, Raven Guard Unhelmed, and White Scars Unhelmed. The Season Pass additions are the second Space Wolves Champion Pack, which includes a Bulwark Champion and a One-Handed Thunder Hammer skin, and the Exorcists Cosmetic Pack with a helmet, pauldrons, gauntlets, and breastplate.
The Game Director will answer questions on September 28
Players can leave questions in the Reddit Q&A thread, where the Game Director will respond on Monday, September 28. The session should give the community a closer look at the Apothecary, the Year 3 roadmap, and the systems arriving after Patch 15.
