Phantom Blade Zero’s Boss Weapons Can Open New Paths
Certain Phantom Edges double as traversal tools, while swapping weapons also feeds into Soul's counterattack-focused combat.

Boss fights in Phantom Blade Zero can shape more than Soul’s next duel. Certain Phantom Edges earned from defeated bosses also break barriers or let him grapple to otherwise unreachable spots, as PlayStation explains in its combat and exploration breakdown.
Weapon swaps feed into combat
Square attacks start basic combos, while Triangle delivers heavier blows. R1 dodges, and L1 blocks when held or parries when tapped. Blocking drains Soul’s Sha-Chi, and an empty meter can leave him staggered and exposed. Well-timed parries, dodges, and landed hits pressure the opponent’s Sha-Chi instead.
Switching between Soul’s 2 equipped main weapons with Left on the D-Pad quickly restores his Sha-Chi, making a weapon swap useful between attacking and defending. Landing hits also builds Sha-Chi Essence. Once it is full, L2 unleashes a Power Surge that interrupts an enemy’s attacks and deals heavy damage. Phantom Edges add distinct abilities, though their uses are limited.
The broader arsenal includes more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges. Upgraded weapons can also be reforged to recover materials for another build. Individual weapons bring their own combos and effects, including bleeding enemies for extra damage or siphoning their life.
Some boss rewards also open routes
Defeating Hua, Deadly Betrothed, lets Soul claim the Scarlet Wraithblade. Its combos summon spider lilies that slow enemies, giving the weapon a way to control a fight as well as deal damage. White Serpent and Crimson Viper offer another kind of flexibility as dual-wielded swords, with separate or mixed combos that can send one blade circling while Soul attacks up close with the other.
Some paths require a specific Phantom Edge to smash through a barrier or grapple to a distant location. Finding the right weapon can make an earlier dead end passable, so the game gives players a reason to revisit places after defeating bosses.
Exploration also feeds into side stories and character growth. Visiting new areas can advance existing side quests or reveal new ones, while Blue Memory Flowers uncover the past of the places Soul visits. Finding every flower tied to a story increases his health.
