Oblivion Remastered’s Physical PS5 Edition Will Require Internet, Box Art Now Says

The box art for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered now includes an Internet Required disclaimer for the PS5 physical edition, which is due on 13th October. Xbox packaging for the same release also warns the RPG will “require [a] content download.”

What’s on the physical disc

Spotted by Wario64 on X, the warning has people worried because the Deluxe Edition carries DLC that must be redeemed with a voucher. Those items include armour, weapons, and mounts, and you will have to go online to claim them.

Fans are also wary because the game is reportedly around 120GB, which is larger than a single 100GB PS5 Blu-ray disc can hold. That has led to speculation that the publisher may be asking players to download additional data, or to rely on a partial-disc approach similar to recent releases criticized as “Game Key Discs.” The term refers to discs that include only a fraction of the game data and require downloads for the rest.

The packaging language could reflect the voucher redemption process and any required post-install updates, or it could indicate that a larger portion of the game is missing from the disc. Both Microsoft and Bethesda have faced criticism recently over physical releases that require substantial downloads, and that history is part of why collectors are upset.

If you care about long-term ownership and offline play, this impacts collectors and anyone who buys physical for preservation. Please share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X and Bluesky.
