Bethesda May Extend Oblivion Remastered’s Switch 2 Performance Work to Other Platforms

The Switch 2 version includes touchscreen controls, mouse control, gyro aiming, DLSS anti-aliasing, and additional optimization work.

Bethesda is looking into bringing performance optimizations from the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered to other platforms after the new edition launched on August 11. The company has not confirmed which platforms would receive the work or when a patch might arrive.

The Switch 2 version includes touchscreen controls, mouse control, gyro aiming, and DLSS anti-aliasing. Bethesda also described the release as having performance optimizations carried over from the original Oblivion Remastered release in its announcement.

Bethesda is considering a wider Oblivion Remastered patch

In an August 11 post on X, Bethesda said: “We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”

The Switch 2 build targets 30 frames per second and can still struggle to maintain a stable rate, so it is not a perfect indication of what a possible PS5 patch could deliver.

Bethesda’s message arrives more than a year after the remaster’s April 2025 launch. The game received patches 1.1 and 1.2 after release, but development updates have been scarce since then, even as PS5 players continued to encounter frame-rate dips and hitching while assets load, along with crashes and requests for missing quality-of-life features. Bethesda’s statement suggests that at least some of the technical work used for the Switch 2 edition could be adapted elsewhere, but it does not promise a full performance overhaul.

Bethesda also kept a suggestions channel for the game on its official Discord during that period. As updates slowed, player requests there increasingly focused on asking the studio not to abandon the remaster.

The possibility of a wider patch follows an earlier Switch 2 promotion that had already renewed calls for more attention to the remaster’s existing versions. For now, players will have to wait for Bethesda to explain which optimizations it can bring over and whether they will address the most disruptive problems.
