NBA 2K27 Will Bring Co-Ed Play and After-Dark Courts to The City

The City will also add Crew HQ, Casual Corner, Daily Rivals, rotating venues, and new progression rewards in NBA 2K27.

NBA 2K27 will give The City its first co-ed setup, a nighttime visual makeover, and several new ways to compete. The official Courtside Report also details Crew HQ, the rookie-friendly Casual Corner, Street Kings changes, Daily Rivals, and a larger set of progression rewards.

A co-ed City with one shared MyPLAYER system

For the first time in the series, male and female MyPLAYERs will play together throughout The City. Both versions will use the same gameplay framework, with height, badges, attribute ratings, and wingspan determined by the build rather than the character’s appearance.

Female MyPLAYERs will be limited to City content, but the rewards earned there will remain available to all MyPLAYERs. That includes game-enhancing rewards such as the MyPOINTS Accelerator. Every City activity will be co-ed, including The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting 5, Crew HQ, and Casual Corner.

Customization will also receive a major expansion, with thousands of women’s apparel options planned for NBA 2K27. Players will be able to build outfits around designer brands, streetwear, and WNBA gear.

The City will glow after dark

NBA 2K27’s City will move its visual identity into the night. Neon lighting will run through the connected streets, while Crews and pickup games should be easier to find within the refreshed layout.

The REC, The Theater, Ante-Up, and Seasonal Parks will each receive new environments shaped by community feedback. The REC will rotate between five different locations at launch, so games will not always take place in the same setting.

  • High School Gym: A packed gymnasium built for loud crowds and highlight-reel dunks.
  • Outdoor Court: A neighborhood park surrounded by fans under the city lights.
  • Private Gym: A quieter space for teams to practice plays and build chemistry.
  • Crowded Arena: A pressure-filled venue where the audience surrounds every possession.
  • Season-Themed Venue: A compact court that will receive a new floor and jerseys each Season.

The Theater will leave its previous setting behind and move outdoors onto a dedicated City block. Ante-Up will sit on a rooftop above the clouds, complete with an infinity edge and views of the surrounding skyscrapers.

Seasonal Parks will rotate every Season. NBA 2K27 will introduce four new locations alongside HD remasters of Sunset Beach, Old Town Park, and Rivet City from NBA 2K17. Season 1 will begin at Lion & Vine Park, an urban court positioned in one of The City’s busiest areas.

Crew HQ gives teams a permanent home

Crew HQ will act as a shared base for organized groups, much like MyCOURT serves an individual MyPLAYER. Crews can use built-in voice chat, practice on 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 half courts, or run full 3v3 and 5v5 games before entering matchmaking.

Competitive Crew games will support both 3v3 and 5v5 formats. Crews will be matched with teams from the same rank whenever possible, or the closest available rank when the exact match is unavailable. Six tiers will be available: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Top Ranked.

Each day, a Crew will compete on its tier’s leaderboard against 39 other Crews. The weekly race will last seven days, with wins helping teams climb and poor results putting their position at risk. The final weekend of every Season will bring a divisional tournament, where Crews can fight for a title and exclusive prizes. Once the next Season begins, every Crew will move down two tiers and need to work its way back up.

Customization will extend beyond player outfits. Crews can create their own uniforms and logos, then display their jerseys in the rafters of Crew HQ. The Squad Showdown Kiosk will also support private matches and league play with members of other Crews, bringing Pro-Am-style competition into the team hub.

Crew progression will begin with 40 levels, which is 10 more than in the previous game. Starting in Season 2, five more levels will be added every Season, giving groups another reason to keep playing together.

Casual Corner creates a gentler starting point

Players who are still learning their build, jumpshot, or dribble animations will have an optional place to practice before joining the wider City. Casual Corner will offer 3v3 and 5v5 games and use Overall Performance tiers, also known as plate colors, to sort players by experience.

  • Casual (Black): Easier CPU opponents provide room to learn the controls and test a build.
  • Hooper (Bronze): Teammates become human players while the opposing team remains CPU-controlled.
  • Baller (Silver): Both teams consist of human players, introducing direct competition.
  • Pro (Gold): The format remains the same, but the opponent strength increases.
  • MVP (Purple) and Hall of Fame (Red): CPU opponents return with their highest ratings and badges. These tiers no longer award VC, Season XP, REP, or Badge progression, signaling that it is time to move into the rest of The City.

Returning NBA 2K26 players will carry their highest Overall Performance tier into NBA 2K27 on day one. Anyone who feels ready can leave Casual Corner and enter the wider City at any point.

Street Kings brings Rucker Park into the rotation

Street Kings will return as a 3v3 mode where a player and up to two friends face CPU-controlled bosses. NBA 2K27 will include three courts for the mode: The Hollows, Claremont Court, and Rucker Park.

The Harlem streetball court will also play a role in the MyCAREER story, Fire & Concrete. Players will follow in the footsteps of NBA stars, build a reputation through standout performances, and make Rucker Park part of their rise.

The weekly Street Kings tournament will start with a seeding-based play-in round before moving into a best-of-five bracket. The final championship game will be played to 21 points, and the opponents and rules will change each week. Forty reward levels will offer apparel and cosmetics along the way.

Court Crashers can interrupt any game when a boss player suddenly takes over the court. Defeating that opponent will provide a large reward. A rotating group of featured VIP teammates will also appear each day, offering extra bonuses for players who run with them.

Starting 5 gets a board-game progression system

Starting 5 will continue to put one MyPLAYER alongside four AI teammates against another human player and their AI squad. NBA 2K27 will add a board-style progression system with 16 game slots on each board.

Highlight slots will require a specific team, while the remaining slots will allow players to choose freely. Male MyPLAYERs will select a current NBA team. Completing the required highlight games will unlock Historic teams, and finishing complete 16-game boards will unlock All-Time teams.

Female MyPLAYERs will choose from 40 mixed-gender rosters. These include teams built around archetypes such as shooting or defense, as well as Icon teams featuring top NBA and WNBA players associated with cities including Chicago and Los Angeles. Completing full boards will unlock more Icon teams.

Both paths award a VC bonus for completing a full board. Finishing every board and unlocking every team will grant Starting 5 VIP status, represented by a special icon on the leaderboard. VIP players can keep completing 16-game boards for more VC bonuses.

Daily Rivals tracks a fresh leaderboard every day

Daily Rivals will give The City a daily competition built around a group of 40 players. Each player will be matched with 39 others according to skill level and play frequency, and every game will affect the daily standings.

Everyone who participates will receive a daily reward, while higher placements will provide better gear. The top three players will also earn a Rivals Ticket, which can be used for a chance at some of the mode’s rarest items.

Player Medals and REP add more long-term goals

Player Medals will provide another way to display achievements. Players can earn them by completing Lifetime Challenges or reaching major statistical milestones in The City. Once equipped, a medal can appear during pre-game introductions, lineups, matchmaking lobbies, and the post-game winner’s circle.

Nearly 300 medals will be available across five tiers, ranging from Beginner to Elite & Mastery. Medals can be earned in any game mode, and players can change which achievement they want to display. Examples include medals for reaching 8,000 assists in The REC or winning 50 Park games in a row.

REP progression will also begin with 40 tiers at launch, twice the number from last year. The goal is to provide more rewards during the same amount of playtime, with another unlock arriving more often.

The NBA 2K HQ app arrives August 21

The NBA 2K HQ app will be available starting August 21, 2026. It will include the complete MyPLAYER Builder, allowing players to create builds away from the game, along with social features for chatting with their Crew.

NBA 2K27 will include optional in-game purchases and paid random items. Online play will require an Internet connection and an NBA 2K Account, while console online play will require a separate paid subscription. Crossplay will be available only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
