Kazuhisa Wada sees possible Persona 1 and 2 remakes as game preservation
He did not confirm active development, release timing, or platforms for Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
Kazuhisa Wada has again put Persona 1 and Persona 2 remakes on the table, but his latest comments remain a statement of intent rather than a production announcement. The Persona 4 Revival producer said he views remakes and remasters as a form of cultural preservation, with creators responsible for keeping their earlier work from being lost.
Speaking with Rock Paper Shotgun, Wada connected that view to Persona 3 Reload and Persona 4 Revival. He said both projects were considered around the same time, although Persona 4 Revival was placed on the backburner while the team worked on other priorities.
“For me, I think a remaster or remake is some kind of cultural preservation,” Wada said. “As a creator, it’s your duty to take the things you’ve done and make sure they’re not lost, and are still around in the modern day. From that same perspective, Persona 1 and 2 are something we’ll probably eventually do too.”
Even with that wording, the comments do not confirm that Atlus has started work on either remake. No release window, platforms, or development details were provided. Wada made a similar case in August, saying that reviving the two games was something the team should do, though those earlier remarks also stopped short of confirming an active project.
For clarity, Persona 1 and Persona 2 cover three games. The first entry is Revelations: Persona, while Persona 2 is split between Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. Bringing all three games forward would leave Atlus with difficult choices about which original systems, story elements, and presentation details should remain intact.
Atlus also has nearer-term Persona work ahead. Persona 4 Revival’s February 18, 2027 launch is already scheduled, while Sega has revealed Persona 6 as part of the franchise’s wider 30th anniversary plans. For now, those projects remain the public focus while Wada’s remarks point to a possible future for the first two entries rather than an announced remake release.
