Halo: Campaign Evolved Adds Four-Player Co-op, New Missions, and Campaign Remix

Premium Edition owners can start playing on July 23, while the full remake launches across Xbox, PC, cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5 on July 28.

Halo: Campaign Evolved will bring the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign to current platforms with rebuilt visuals, three new missions, expanded co-op, new Skulls, and several gameplay additions. Xbox Wire detailed the remake’s new features as Premium Edition owners began receiving early access on July 23, 2026.

The full launch is scheduled for July 28, 2026. The campaign will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5. It will also support Xbox Play Anywhere, cross-play, and cross-progression across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5.

Operation: METEORITE Adds Three Missions

The remake expands the original story with Operation: METEORITE, a three-mission arc set roughly one year before the main campaign. The new content follows the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson through a separate combat operation with new environments, enemies, gameplay, Skulls, and Terminals.

The missions add more context to the events leading into the opening of Halo: Campaign Evolved without replacing the story players already know. They also give Chief and Johnson another opportunity to fight together before the main campaign begins.

The Campaign Supports Four-Player Online Co-op

For the first time in Halo: Combat Evolved, the campaign can be played online with up to four players. Cross-platform play means the squad can include players on supported console and PC versions.

Halo Studios rebuilt the campaign spaces around the larger team size. Weapon spawns scale with the number of players, levels have been adjusted to support smoother movement, and more vehicles are available across the missions. In Assault on the Control Room, players can use Ghosts, Wraiths, and the Scorpion tank, giving every member of the squad a way to cross the battlefield.

Skulls Have New Locations and New Modifiers

Returning players will need to search for the original Skulls again because their locations have been moved. These collectibles modify elements such as combat, enemy spawns, weapons, and the environment.

The remake also adds new Skulls, including one that unlocks an optional third-person perspective. Their new positions give players a reason to revisit familiar missions and check areas that may have been ignored in the original campaign.

Campaign Remix Randomizes Familiar Missions

Collecting three Skulls unlocks Campaign Remix, a replay mode that changes completed missions with randomized encounters and equipment.

Every Remix mission begins with three active modifiers:

  • Adaptation randomizes the enemy types appearing throughout the level.
  • Reload randomizes weapon placement.
  • Armistice makes every enemy type fight on the same side against the player.

Campaign Remix also adds nine weapons from other games in the series. Players can combine those weapons with any other Skulls they have collected, creating different versions of the campaign missions.

Two visual modifiers are included as well. Nightvision adds a permanent green filter with enemies and points of interest outlined in neon green. Spore Visibility fills the environment with fog and Flood spores, reducing visibility and distorting nearby objects. The effect changes both enclosed areas such as The Library and outdoor spaces such as the mission Halo.

More Weapons, Vehicles, and Modern Controls

Halo: Campaign Evolved keeps the original campaign structure while updating its visuals, cinematics, animations, soundtrack, sound design, controls, and level design. The arsenal includes nine weapons from across the wider Halo series.

Vehicle combat also gets new options. Players can hijack enemy vehicles and drive a Wraith tank, two features that were not part of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. The game supports solo play, two-player split-screen co-op on console, and four-player online co-op.

Premium Edition owners receive up to five days of early access beginning July 23, 2026, along with the Foundry Armory Pack. The edition also includes the Alpha Halo Armory Pack, a digital artbook, a digital short story, and a digital game manual. Players can still view the official purchase options before the July 28 launch.
