Halo’s next chapter may be taking a much more distributed development route. Unverified claims point to Activision testing a basic multiplayer prototype for a new Halo game in June, with Sledgehammer Games reportedly positioned to lead if the project moves forward.
The early build reportedly reached only the blockout phase, where basic systems such as player movement were tested, before the prototype was canceled in early July. Microsoft was reportedly still considering whether Activision should work on Halo projects, but no game had been approved.
The discussion also linked the next Halo project to the reported code name Project Ecker and a possible multiplayer focus. It remains unclear whether Project Ecker is connected to the canceled Activision pitch or represents a separate effort.
