Halo: Campaign Evolved’s PS5 Update Will Fix Sgt. Johnson and Jackal Issues Next Week

The confirmed fixes cover campaign progression, Jackal stagger behavior, visual settings, Magnified Skull weapon behavior, and stability across multiple platforms.

Halo Studios announced an upcoming PS5 update for Halo: Campaign Evolved in an X post. The patch will go live next week with fixes for a progression-blocking Sgt. Johnson issue, inconsistent Jackal stagger behavior, weapon bugs tied to the Magnified Skull, visual settings, and stability across multiple platforms.

The developer has shared only some of the changes so far, meaning additional fixes may be included when the update arrives. For now, these are the confirmed items.

Patch Notes

The largest fixes target campaign progression and combat feedback, while new display toggles give players more control over the game’s visual effects.

  • Improvements to Sgt. Johnson to prevent blocked mission progression.
  • Jackals can now be staggered more reliably when targeting their hands and feet.
  • Marines and Flood Marines will now fire their Assault Rifles when the Magnified Skull is activated.
  • Players can now turn off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain.
  • Additional stability improvements across multiple platforms.

The Sgt. Johnson fix should prevent a campaign progression problem in The Most Dangerous Game. The character could stop moving near the first bridge, leaving the checkpoint and objective stuck until players pushed his model forward.

Jackals are also receiving a combat behavior adjustment. Their shield openings were not consistently allowing players to stagger them by targeting their hands and feet, so the update will make those hit reactions more dependable.

Players who use the Magnified Skull will also see a fix for Marine and Flood Marine weapon behavior. With the Skull active, those units will be able to fire their Assault Rifles as intended.

Finally, the update will add options to disable Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain. Those settings join the broader stability work planned for the patch, although Halo Studios has not yet detailed the complete list of changes.
