Disney Says Nine Game Series Have Crossed $1 Billion at Retail

Disney is highlighting the reach of its game properties as part of its next chapter. The company says nine Disney game series have each grossed more than $1 billion at retail.
Marvel’s Strike Force and Kingdom Hearts are two of the series included in that figure. The milestone places both franchises among Disney’s biggest game successes, even though they take very different approaches to the medium. Sean Shoptaw, Disney’s executive vice president of global games, cited both series while emphasizing the importance of “telling truly original stories that really are unique to this medium, specifically.”
Disney shared the figure in its overview of games and the company’s next chapter. The announcement’s headline identifies the nine-series milestone but only names Marvel’s Strike Force and Kingdom Hearts.
Square Enix has also said that the Kingdom Hearts series sold more than 38 million copies across its history. That total covers the franchise’s accumulated sales rather than a single release, offering additional context for its place among Disney’s billion-dollar game series.
Games have become another way for Disney to extend its major characters and worlds beyond film and television. With two of its named billion-dollar series spanning Marvel and Kingdom Hearts, the figure points to the wide range of properties contributing to Disney’s gaming business.
