EA Sports has renamed the FC Pro World Championship trophy in Diogo Jota’s honor. The announcement came on July 3, 2026, the one-year anniversary of the former Liverpool and Portugal forward’s death in a car crash.
In its July 3 post on X, EA Sports FC said the trophy had been renamed with Jota’s family’s blessing. The publisher said the change recognizes both his love for EA SPORTS FC and his long-running interest in esports.
The renamed trophy will be lifted on July 26 at the FC Pro Championships during the Esports World Cup, where the best EA FC 26 players will compete for a $1.5 million prize pool.

Why Jota’s name fits the trophy
Jota was more than a football star. He founded Luna Esports, which still competes in EA FC, and he regularly played Weekend League and other high-level EA FC matches. The tribute also fits with a well-known moment from his career, when he once had to quit a ranked FIFA match because he was running late for a Liverpool game.
EA Sports said it will keep working with Jota’s family on ways to honor his legacy, and the tribute gives his connection to football and gaming a permanent place on one of EA FC’s biggest stages.
