Diablo 4 is keeping its next season light so Lord of Hatred can breathe
Blizzard said Season of Reckoning will lean on carryover rewards, free cosmetics, and seasonal objectives instead of a big temporary gimmick.

Diablo 4 is giving Lord of Hatred room to breathe. Blizzard’s new Season of Reckoning will begin 30 minutes after the expansion goes live later today, but it is being kept intentionally lean so the campaign and the postgame changes can stay front and center.
In Blizzard’s Prepare for the Reckoning post, the studio said the season marks a break from the usual pattern. Players will still make seasonal characters and work through objectives, but the rewards lean more on carryover materials and cosmetics than on a special seasonal mechanic.
There is still plenty tucked into the track. Blizzard says players can earn enough materials to craft at least seven mythic uniques, along with free cosmetics such as a pet made from hellish roots. The seasonal reliquary and some cosmetic items still sit behind a purchase, but most of the materials and rewards do not require the expansion.
The reason Blizzard can afford to keep the season light is simple. Lord of Hatred already brings new classes, reworked skill trees, item crafting through the Horadric Cube, and an endgame mode with more than enough to keep players busy. Blizzard says Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred will launch on April 27 at 4 pm PDT (7 pm EDT), and Season of Reckoning will begin 30 minutes later at 4:30 pm PDT (7:30 pm PDT). That should leave a small gap before the new campaign, loot chase, and seasonal rewards all hit at once.
