Black Myth: Zhong Kui Trailer Offers 15 Minutes of Early Gameplay
Game Science says the footage came from a work-in-progress PC build running in Unreal Engine 5, and no release date has been announced.

Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the second game in the Black Myth series. The footage introduces the unnamed protagonist in combat, follows them through a ruined mountainous area, and includes an early look at the game’s story.
Game Science announced the project during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live in 2025, but had no in-game footage to show at the time. The studio has traditionally shared updates on August 20, and this trailer arrived on August 20, 2026.
The trailer comes from a work-in-progress build, so the final game may look and play differently. Game Science captured the footage in-game at a 21:9 aspect ratio and identified it as coming from the PC version.
Combat takes center stage, with the protagonist wielding a large weapon against monstrous enemies. Alongside dodges, the footage appears to show a dedicated parry input. In Black Myth: Wukong, parrying was tied to a specific ability rather than being a standard part of the character’s controls. Elemental abilities add another layer to the fighting. In one sequence, the player creates a blaze, absorbs the fire into a sword, and then uses that stored power against another group of enemies. The flames also appear to spread to nearby trees, setting parts of the environment alight. Traversal appears to extend beyond a fixed path, with the protagonist climbing over boulders and rocky ledges.
A late boss encounter pits the protagonist against a towering creature whose wings are covered in clam-like shells. The player chips away at its armor until the shells shatter, after which the creature becomes more aggressive and the battle changes. Heavy blocks stand out alongside the parries during the exchange. A summoned ally remains in the fight, and the player appears to possess it temporarily, gaining access to a more powerful combat state.
The trailer offers brief story scenes connected to Zhong Kui, the famed Chinese folk figure who serves as the game’s main creative inspiration.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is planned as a single-player action RPG built with Unreal Engine 5. Game Science has also said it plans to bring the game to major consoles alongside PC, with more platform and release details to come closer to launch. Game Science has not disclosed the graphics settings used for the trailer, leaving the footage as an early look rather than a final representation of the PC release.
There is still no public release window for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Game Science has not opened a store page for the game on Steam or the Epic Games Store, either. The project also has an official Zhong Kui website.
