Beast of Reincarnation Director Apologizes as Game Freak Works on More Fixes

Kota Furushima said the action RPG still needed polish while praising its partner combat and post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

Game Freak director Kota Furushima has apologized to players who felt that Beast of Reincarnation did not deliver a sufficiently enjoyable experience. The studio’s action RPG launched on August 3, but performance complaints and other issues have made its opening stretch a rough one.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Furushima acknowledged that the team still had plenty to address. “I’m truly sorry that parts of the game haven’t provided a sufficiently enjoyable experience,” the director said. He added that some areas still required the team’s sincere attention, making it clear that Game Freak was aware of the problems players had been reporting.

Furushima also said that Beast of Reincarnation “needs polishing,” with Game Freak working on more fixes and changes over the coming weeks and months. Planned work includes further changes to story pacing, frame-generation support, and an option to skip cutscenes. He remained positive about the game’s central partnership between Emma and Koo, as well as its unusual post-apocalyptic setting.

According to the director, players have responded well to fighting alongside Koo and to the atmosphere of the ruined world. Those elements give the game an identity separate from Game Freak’s better-known Pokémon series, even if the launch problems have overshadowed some of its strengths.

Furushima also said difficulty itself was not the main area he wanted to change. The game was not meant to be especially difficult; success instead depends on players working effectively with Koo.

Furushima’s comments came before the first post-launch patch. Game Freak’s first post-launch patch, Update 1.0.7, arrived on August 9 with NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4.0 Super Resolution support, along with fixes for camera behavior, story pacing, controls, cutscenes, upscaling settings, and other bugs.

That timing means the interview reflects the team’s view before those changes went live, while further support remains in development. Whether the updates can turn around the game’s early reception will depend on how well the remaining issues are addressed.
