Pokémon’s New Aardman Series Is Coming to Disney+ and Disney XD in 2027

Correction, August 29, 2026: An earlier version said Aardman’s Pokémon series would stream exclusively on Disney+. New distribution details confirm that Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will also be available on Disney XD worldwide in 2027. The article has been updated.

Pokémon is heading to Disney+ and Disney XD in a new stop-motion animated adventure. The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will arrive worldwide in 2027, though an exact release date has not been revealed.

The announcement came during PokémonXP, a fan convention held alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. Aardman and The Pokémon Company also presented a new trailer during a live PokémonXP panel, offering another look at Sirfetch’d and Pichu’s journey through Galar.

Sirfetch’d and Pichu take on Galar

The show centers on Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they travel through Galar, the region introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Sirfetch’d also made its debut in those games as the evolved form of Farfetch’d, so the series is giving one of Galar’s most memorable Pokémon a starring role.

Their missions will involve helping and protecting Pokémon across the region, although the pair will not have an easy time keeping every heroic plan on track. The story teases dangerous situations, rivalries, alliances, unusual Pokémon, and plenty of comedy, with the adventures helping build a friendship between the two heroes as they head into the unknown together.

Newly revealed Pokémon include Impidimp and Appletun. Aardman is best known for animated projects such as Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Timmy Time, and Morph, making its stop-motion take on the Pokémon world a playful match for the series’ unusual pair of heroes.

Phil Rynda, director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International, said the series tells adventurous and heroic stories from the Pokémon perspective. He also praised Aardman’s work bringing Galar to life, from its landscapes to the world’s Pokémon characters.

Disney is also carrying Ash’s first Pokémon anime run

The Disney agreement reaches back to the beginning of the anime as well. Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which centers on Ash and Pikachu’s original journey, is available now on Disney+ and Disney XD in the US and select other regions.

Disney executive Ayo Davis said, “Pokemon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today. This new series Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love.”

The Aardman series is set for 2027, but its specific release date and episode details are still to come.
