Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has surpassed the launch numbers of both Odyssey and Origins, reaching an impressive milestone of 2 million players. This new installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise takes players on an adventure set in Feudal Japan.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Has Surpassed 2 Million Players
The official Assassin’s Creed account on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed that the game crossed the launch numbers of AC Origins and Odyssey, with over 1 million players joining within just one day. The decision to launch Shadows Day One on Steam is also paying off; it has already exceeded AC Origin’s all-time peak player counts and is closing in on Odyssey’s.
🔥 2 MILLION PLAYERS! 🔥
We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone!

Shadows hit a record peak of 59,941 concurrent players on Steam at the time of writing, topping Valhalla’s peak of 15,679 and Origins’ peak of 41,551. It is just shy of beating Odyssey’s record of 62,069. None of these other AC games had a Day One release on Steam.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which faced several delays before its release on March 20, seems to have benefitted from extra development time by offering a more polished experience for players. It’ll be interesting to see how many more gamers join this journey over time and if it becomes the most-played game in the series yet.
It looks like Sahdows may have also set a record for its endgame credits length. Also, the Japanese government is concerned about potential ‘imitation attacks’ inspired by elements from the game. What are your thoughts on Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ success?
