An Apparent GTA 6 Leak Shows Jason Shooting Hoops Ahead of the August 27 Reveal

Roughly one-minute clips appear to show Jason Duval at the oceanside house and police responding to a freeway crash, while separate images claim to depict a wider Vice City map.

An unverified Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay clip circulated online on August 18, just days before Rockstar’s scheduled gameplay presentation. The minute-long video was attributed to a group called Cyberleek and had already passed 100,000 views by the time of publication. Alongside a second roughly one-minute video, the footage appears to come from an early build.

The footage appears to place Jason Duval at the oceanside house shown in earlier trailers. He moves across the deck, jumps down to the driveway, picks up a basketball, and takes a shot. Making the basket increases a HUD stat called “Focus” by 2%, while the interface also shows a stamina bar. The basketball activity appears to use a simple timing challenge, with the player pressing a button when two rings overlap.

The interface shows $39 beside a dollar symbol and $1,643 beside a house icon. The figures may represent Jason’s money on hand and funds held in a bank account, although the clip does not explain what either total means.

A second video attributed to Cyberleek surfaced roughly an hour later. It shows the player driving a battered car, hitting a delivery truck, and attacking its driver with a pipe wrench. An NPC gets out and attacks Jason as police begin arriving, and the sequence appears to lead him toward a helicopter that may be available to steal. The footage does not establish whether the helicopter can actually be taken.

Stamina appears to drain as Jason attacks. When the meter reaches zero, the edges of the screen darken, and movement may slow. A blue indicator arrow also seems to track how close officers are to spotting Jason. Police may be able to identify him through his clothing, a face- or hair-related marker, and his current vehicle, although none of those systems has been confirmed for the final game.

Police presence appears to be signaled by a soft red-and-blue effect on screen rather than the moving police dots used on GTA 5‘s minimap. Dialogue prompts labeled warn and defuse also appear during the encounter. The footage seems to retain the familiar six-star wanted scale, even though this particular attack appears to produce only a two-star response. A devil icon with a minus symbol appears while Jason continues beating the unconscious delivery driver, but not when the fight begins, possibly hinting at a system that distinguishes starting a brawl from escalating the attack. None of those systems has been confirmed for the final game.

Other HUD details may point to more involved vehicle management. The interface appears to include both a fuel gauge and an engine-condition meter, along with “loadout” and “storage 0/4” options for the vehicle’s trunk or truck bed.

Map images make a much weaker case

Cyberleek also shared images said to show the GTA 6 map, with the apparent layout covering Vice City and surrounding areas. The artwork looks too simple to confidently represent the final version of the in-game map, so those images provide less convincing evidence than the gameplay footage.

Even so, the images contain a few specific clues. One appears to place Jason’s house in southern Leonida, on one of the islands in the Keys. Another shows a car marked with a “J” for Jason while the player marker sits over water, potentially indicating that Lucia is on a boat or aircraft. Several small track symbols appear across Leonida, and a smaller airport is visible at the far end of the Keys. It could be a military facility, although the map does not confirm that interpretation.

An accompanying message claims the leaks were motivated by Rockstar’s decision not to release a physical version of GTA 6. The same material directs users toward several websites and asks for money, giving players little reason to follow those links or treat the explanation as confirmed.

The timing puts the alleged footage just ahead of Rockstar’s planned Grand Theft Auto VI extended look on August 27. Netflix will carry the presentation at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET. Until that presentation arrives, the clips and map images remain unverified.
