Incursion Red River 1.4.0.0 Adds Outskirts and Overhauls RED:FOR AI

The update resets mission and safehouse progress, but leaves players' inventory and stash intact.

Incursion Red River‘s Patch 1.4.0.0 adds a new map, new raid operations and a rebuilt AI system, but there is one important catch before players jump in: mission and safehouse progress will reset. Inventory and stash contents are not wiped, according to the Steam announcement for Patch 1.4.0.0.

Outskirts is the new map, while Delta gains additional building interiors and routes. The campaign adds 3 main story missions and 2 side quests. Airdrops and convoys can appear across every map, and players can use the laser rangefinder to call an airstrike against convoys. Delta also gets a boss convoy that appears only at night. In-raid traders and a secure container are now available on every map.

The update also makes broad changes to combat and survival systems. RED:FOR AI has a new director, cover and search behavior, with bots coordinating awareness and moving in squads. Tactical sprint, a low-ready stance, higher mantling, reworked recoil and scopes, new medical effects and treatment items, and a food and drink system add more layers to raids.

Inventory changes include item swapping, backpack rolling, bulk selling, stash search and mixed ammunition in a magazine. The game’s install size is reduced from about 80 GB to 40 GB. The update also adds frame generation for AMD, NVIDIA and Intel, Intel XeSS upscaling, LPVGI global illumination, and localization in German, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Korean, Japanese and Spanish.

RED:FOR AI

  • New AI Director – manages every bot from one place, including how many go after you at once, for pacing and performance. Most of the bots’ work now runs off the main thread.
  • New Cover System – built for huge numbers of bots and much faster. Bots can flank, hold overwatch, manoeuvre on you, or reposition to a new angle without advancing.
  • New Searching – bots cover the ground you could be in as a team, with limits on how many hunt you at once. Bots that are shot at always come looking.
  • Awareness – bots only know what the friendlies around them can see, and share it with their own side only.
  • Avoidance – bots steer clear of grenades, gas and smoke clouds, and spots where friendlies died.
  • Squad Movement – bots read where their friendlies are heading, handle tight corridors much better, and patrol in formations such as columns and wedges.
  • Movement & Rotation – reworked with weight and inertia, so bots move and turn far more naturally. In open fights, they also sprint to new positions instead of only strafing.
  • Slicing the Pie – bots work their way around corners while watching them, instead of walking straight through.
  • Aiming – bots pre-aim corners and react faster when you appear where they expect you. A new aim system lines the weapon up exactly with the target, which also makes your own weapon line up properly with your camera.
  • Weapon Handling & Friendly Fire – bots raise, lower and low-ready their weapons, and lower them when a friendly walks in front. Friendly fire is far rarer, but bots can still make mistakes.
  • Grenades – bots now throw grenades (first version). Grenades can be turned off in the AI settings, and are off on Recruit.
  • Senses – hearing and sight sharing between friendlies was rebuilt to be more accurate and much cheaper. Bots that hear the same enemy agree on one position.
  • Flashlights & Lasers – rebuilt how bots detect flashlights and lasers.
  • AI Settings – an expanded settings menu (including search limits and AI muzzle flash size) and shareable preset codes.
