Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age will receive a major tactical-map overhaul on its Public Beta branch on October 26. Triassic Games’ Steam announcement describes a new 3D globe and Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC) map-and-terrain system designed to correct distortion at high latitudes and address the International Date Line issue.
The tactical display will represent a spherical world, making scenarios over the poles possible. The update also brings new map rendering, automatic label placement, and a day-night boundary. In Auto mode, that boundary appears on the globe, while Light and Dark map modes remain available.
High-latitude scenarios will feel the biggest difference
East-west distances at high latitudes will be more realistic, which can affect how aircraft fuel ranges, missile reach, and the spacing between forces play out in a scenario. Missions closer to the equator should see much less change.

For scenario creators, existing missions should update automatically with a generated play area intended to contain their units and waypoints. Creators can review the play area’s center, rotation, and edge length in Mission Editor, then save any adjustments. Play areas can reach 5,000 nautical miles per side. Very large scenarios may need changes, while smaller boundaries can reduce VRAM use.
High-latitude missions may also need changes to unit positions or timing. Mod developers using AnchorChain mods may need to update them for compatibility with the beta. Public Beta access instructions are available for players who need to switch branches.
The beta also updates sensors, weapons, and mission tools
Beyond the map, the beta includes fixes for aircraft handling, formations, carrier operations, and attack behavior. Sonar and radar receive improvements, including fixes for radar lookdown behavior. Weapons get reliability and damage changes, revised CIWS ballistics and balance, and visible launch failures.
Campaign interface updates cover task force management and mission launches. Scenario creators also get more flexible sides and alliances, shared sensor pictures, and new Mission Editor tools for attacks, waypoints, and triggers. Other changes include distance-based spatial audio, clickable event-log track numbers, performance optimizations, unit and loadout corrections, translation updates, and mod file layers for selective overrides, including mission-specific changes.

Triassic Games plans to include the Public Beta changes in the November 11 release.
