Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s SU7.1 Beta Adds Air-Race Time Trials

Build 1.9.20.0 also fixes an aircraft-drag bug, while the Oct. 23 Community Fly-In will travel from Seattle to Chicago.

The Sim Update 7.1 beta for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 enables Time Trials in National Championship Air Racing and fixes a bug that modeled aircraft drag incorrectly.

Version 1.9.20.0 was released as a beta build on Oct. 16. The team is aiming to make SU7.1 available to all players in the near future, according to its October 22 weekly briefing. The beta also addresses a few other issues introduced with Sim Update 7, which brought the air races to the Activities menu on Oct. 13.

The next Community Fly-In is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, at 1800Z. Stage 8 of the sixth-anniversary circumnavigation leaves Seattle, crosses the Rocky Mountains, and makes a touch-and-go landing in Calgary before continuing to Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Chicago. Meigs Field is the planned Chicago stop, with Chicago-O’Hare available as an alternative. Sim Update 7’s Oct. 13 launch introduced the air-racing mode featured in the flight.

A developer livestream is also in preparation for November, though its date and time have not been announced. Players can submit questions in advance for Jorg, Seb, and Martial.

A five-pilot roundtable on real-world air racing and the in-game mode has now aired. The discussion, scheduled for Oct. 16, featured Tammy Camilleri, Rod Hewitt, Steven Hinton Jr., Greg McNeely, and Tommy Suell.

Feeling Fresh is this week’s screenshot challenge theme, following last week’s Guess The Airport challenge, won by Parorng. The next weekly briefing is scheduled for Oct. 29.
