Grounded 2’s Rot and Ruin Update Will Add a Centipede Boss and Potato Beetle Buggy
The fall update also brings termite variants, base painting, and new ways to upgrade weapons and armor.

Grounded 2 will open up the Woodpile and add a Centipede boss when its Rot and Ruin update arrives this fall, according to the Xbox Wire announcement. The update also brings new termite variants, a combat-ready Potato Beetle Buggy, and more ways to customize bases and improve gear.
The Woodpile adds towering wooden structures and winding routes to Brookhollow Park. Termite Workers, Soldiers, and the Termite King return, joined by O.G.R.R. variants with new attacks and unusual behavior.

The Centipede is another threat waiting in the area. The new boss is described as one of the community’s most requested creatures, with plenty of legs to make a quick retreat seem sensible.

The Potato Beetle Buggy can fight and gather
Players will have a new partner in the Potato Beetle Buggy, which is larger than the Ladybug Buggy and built for close-range combat. It can fire a spread of projectiles at creatures ahead and use Healing Roar to help keep its rider in the fight. Away from combat, it can haul resources and contribute materials to building blueprints.
Painting and Bismuth add new ways to build and upgrade
Base builders will be able to craft paint and use the new Splotcher paintball gun to color walls, floors, roofs, stairs, doors, and other structures. The update also adds Bismuth, a new resource connected to the strange forces of Raw Science beneath the park. Players can refine it and use the Yoking Press to upgrade weapons and armor to higher Tiers.

Rot and Ruin will also add SCA.B Themes, collectible miniatures, and new stations. It follows the August Into the Abyss update, which added underwater exploration, and April’s Beat the Heat update, which introduced King Dozer and expanded Buggy progression.
Grounded 2 is available in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Game Pass access, as well as through Steam Early Access and on PlayStation 5. Its full 1.0 release is scheduled for 2027.
