Grounded 2’s Into the Abyss Update Takes the Survival Adventure Underwater

The content update adds diving gear, submerged bases, the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy, new creatures, and a PlayStation 5 Early Access launch.

Grounded 2 is taking its miniature survival adventure below the surface with the Into the Abyss update, which is available today, August 11. The release adds a large underwater region, new equipment, submerged construction, fresh threats, and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. An Xbox Wire announcement also confirms that the game is now reaching PlayStation 5 players during Early Access.

The PlayStation 5 version became available today alongside the update, with its 11:00 AM PT launch time detailed in our PS5 release coverage. Grounded 2 remains in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, as well as Early Access on Steam and PlayStation 5.

Skunk Pond hides a much larger adventure

Into the Abyss turns Skunk Pond into more than a quick stop in Brookhollow Park. Beneath its surface, players can swim through underwater caverns, search for hidden points of interest, and uncover resources and collectibles tucked into the depths.

The new area also reaches beyond the shoreline. The Bridge, Gnarly Bark, and Pergola give players more locations to visit, while the deepest route leads into the mysterious Abyss. Each section adds another reason to search through the park instead of simply passing through it.

New gear helps players reach the depths

Staying underwater requires more preparation than simply jumping into the pond. Players can craft diving gear that extends their time beneath the surface and opens routes that were previously out of reach. Further progression unlocks additional ways to travel deeper, where underwater combat and environmental obstacles make every trip more dangerous.

The Toe Biter Buggy gives players another way to move around Brookhollow Park. Its amphibious design lets it travel across land and water, making it useful when a route crosses from the shoreline into the pond.

Underwater bases and new threats

For the first time in the series, players can build bases beneath the water. These submerged outposts let survivors establish a home in areas that could not previously support construction, opening up plenty of room for creative underwater designs.

The pond is also home to several creatures ready to ruin an otherwise peaceful swim. The amphibious Toe Biter and the mechanical Catch ‘N Kill robots join returning dangers such as the Diving Bell Spider. Players will need to handle familiar enemies and new encounters while searching for everything hidden below the surface.

Into the Abyss supports solo play and multiplayer survival, giving returning players plenty to uncover and new players a larger version of Brookhollow Park to visit. The wider Grounded series has now passed 30 million players, and the PlayStation 5 launch brings another group into its Early Access community.
