Halls of Torment’s Oct. 26 Experimental Update Will Change Torment Score

Kill Mode will require 50% more kills, while Agony Rank will rise according to enemy-kill thresholds.

Halls of Torment‘s Oct. 26 Experimental update will change how Torment Score builds in Kill Mode. Agony Rank will rise with enemy kills, preventing players from waiting for the highest rank before attacking to boost their score.

Each successive rank will require kills equal to 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, and 15% of the total enemy count. Reaching rank 5 will therefore require killing 45% of all enemies before the Lord appears. Kill Mode’s kill requirement will also increase by 50%, and a fix will make fast kills award more Torment Score.

The score will use Monster Value multiplied by the sum of Agony Rank and Torment Level, then multiplied by a Time Factor that cannot exceed 1.0. Chasing Carrots says the Weekly Challenge is also changing to keep the rules fair, and that it will not be released after this week’s official release, according to its Steam announcement.

The changes follow the Oct. 12 Experimental Branch update, which added Weekly Challenge rewards and adjusted the challenge and Kill Modes.

Halls of Torment Oct. 26 Experimental Update Patch Notes

The Agony Rank on maps was flowing into calculating the score, which made it worthwhile not killing enemies and wait for Agony to rise to the highest rank before starting to kill so that the overall score would increase.

To counter this in Kill Mode from there on the Agony rises depending on enemies kills.

  • 0 -> 1: 3% of total enemies
  • 1 -> 2: 6% of total enemies
  • 2 -> 3: 9% of total enemies
  • 3 -> 4: 12% of total enemies
  • 4 -> 5: 15% of total enemies

To get from rank 0 to 5 you need to kill 45% of all enemies until the lord appears. We will see how the balancing works with this, if it is too slow, we might decrease the requirements for ranking up.

  • Kill Mode requires now 50% more kills
  • Fixed an oversight that killing monsters fast would not reward more Torment Score

The Torment Score is now calculated by…

  • Monster Value
  • * (Agony Rank + Torment Level)
  • * Time Factor (always <= 1.0)

We had to change the weekly challenge to make the changes fair for everyone. The Weekly challenge will not release after this weeks official release.
