Halls of Torment’s Next Update Brings Weekly Challenges Before The Lost Archives DLC
Chasing Carrots plans to preview the free update in August or September, but the release date for both parts remains unconfirmed.

Halls of Torment is preparing for a large free update alongside The Lost Archives, a new DLC expansion from Chasing Carrots. The developer shared the current plans in a Steam announcement, while stressing that the release date is still to be confirmed.
Chasing Carrots expects to show more of the free update sometime in August or September 2026. The update itself will follow at an unannounced date, with the DLC planned to arrive a few weeks later alongside it.
What the free update adds
Players will be able to switch between kill and time modes on older maps, bringing them closer to the structure used by the Bogland map. Bogland will also receive a timer mode, although the Vault will remain an exception. The new mode switch will be found in the Shrine of Torment.
The compendium will gain statistics and records, including a character’s highest torment score, total kills, and fastest completion time. Weapons and characters will also track damage dealt. An optional overlay can compare current run results with existing records while playing.
Another addition is the Challenge Shrine. Each week, it will provide a seed for one of the five base maps with random artifacts enabled. Challenges may use either kill or time mode and will activate extra enemy spawns. Chasing Carrots is also working toward a weekly ranking, possibly limited to Steam.
The update will change how Fragile and Affliction work. Both will become permanent debuffs that can stack without an upper limit, with effects tied to damage and effect damage. Affliction can move to another enemy when its target dies, while Fragile will be stronger and lose all of its stacks when the affected enemy is defeated.
Base-game abilities, heroes, and Bogland content will receive balance changes. The team said some heroes and abilities currently perform below the stronger options, so the pass will bring weaker choices closer to the rest of the roster.
Chasing Carrots is also addressing crashes and bugs connected to systems such as Ice Effect and resource leaks. The fixes are planned for the next main patch rather than a series of follow-up hotfixes. General movement will feel faster from the start, but the overall speed scaling will be reduced so runs rely less on movement-speed upgrades.
Smaller visual problems and quality-of-life issues are included as well. One example is automatic quest selection when no quest has been chosen for tracking, which should give new players a clearer objective.
The Lost Archives DLC
The Lost Archives will add a new map that unlocks after acquiring at least five marks for any character. Its difficulty will be close to the Boglands. The DLC will also introduce two characters built around retaliation, sacrificing HP, and the new Judgement Effect mechanic.
The expansion’s other planned content includes:
- 66 quests, each unlocking new content.
- Three new abilities, plus a fourth ability upgrade for every ability that does not have one yet.
- Six new artifacts that alter gameplay and can force more enemies onto the field for extra kills.
- Four additional marks unlocked through the Archives.
- 21 new items, including three for each equipment slot and six for rings, focused on the DLC’s main mechanics.
The new abilities are Judging Light, an autofire skill built around Judgement, Shields of Vengeance, which provides defensive pushback and retaliation, and Blood Rite, whose upgrades focus on sacrificing or recovering HP.
Chasing Carrots said it will share more information in August. Until the preview arrives, the free update and The Lost Archives remain scheduled without a firm release date.
