Grand Theft Auto VI Will Track Jason and Lucia’s Sleep and Affect Some Attribute Regeneration
An in-game fitness app will show whether each protagonist is well rested, while workouts can improve health and stamina.

Grand Theft Auto VI will keep track of Jason and Lucia’s sleep, and neglecting rest will have gameplay consequences. Rockstar Games is tying their sleep status to the regeneration of certain attributes through an in-game fitness app, while regular workouts can improve the pair’s health and stamina.
Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s co-studio head and development lead, discussed the systems in a TGG preview video.
“It will say whether you’re well rested or not,” Nelson said. He added that a poor sleep schedule will affect the regeneration of some attributes before summing up the wider system with a simple explanation: “We track lots of things.” The phone-based app will give players a direct way to check how much rest Jason or Lucia has received.
Grand Theft Auto VI ties workouts to health and stamina
Several gyms will be available across the city, giving players regular places to work on the protagonists’ condition. Players can buy a gym membership and complete three exercises to finish a workout for the day, with the session helping increase a character’s health. Cardio activities can improve stamina, while exercise more generally benefits physical condition. During the preview, Nelson noticed that his bars were running low and pointed to exercise as a way to improve stamina.
Jason and Lucia can also work out together as a date, making exercise one of the game’s shared activities. The preview showed Lucia picking up a protein shake for her workout, another small detail that places fitness inside the pair’s day-to-day routine.
Sleep is only one part of that approach. Jason and Lucia can gain weight if they eat enough, although Nelson said players will have to eat quite a bit before the change becomes visible. Muscle works in the opposite direction, since the pair can lose it after they stop maintaining it.
Other routine systems will reach beyond the characters themselves. Players will need to refuel and recharge their cars, while long stretches of criminal activity may affect the protagonists’ appearances. The game will also let players doomscroll through its satirical social feeds. Rockstar considered asking players to restock Jason and Lucia’s fridge, but that system was cut when it pushed the day-to-day simulation too far.
That leaves GTA VI with a curious balance between ordinary habits and criminal chaos. Sleeping, eating, exercising, and maintaining muscle will sit alongside robberies and chases, so the next crime spree may require a little more preparation than simply grabbing a faster car.
