LEGO’s $179.99 PlayStation Set Will Launch October 1 With 1,911 Pieces
The near life-size build includes removable Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas, along with a plug-in controller.
The LEGO PlayStation set is officially confirmed and will be available on October 1 through PlayStation Direct. Priced at $179.99, €159.99, or £139.99, the near life-size replica of Sony’s 1994 console contains 1,911 pieces and turns the original PlayStation into a display build with functional touches. Sony announced the set during a State of Play presentation on Sept. 3, 2026, in a first look shared on the official PlayStation blog.
LEGO Insiders members will also receive Early Access through the LEGO online shop on October 1. Regular sales through LEGO’s online store and physical locations will begin on October 4, three days after the PlayStation Direct launch. The timing gives collectors an earlier purchase window through PlayStation’s storefront and LEGO’s membership program before wider LEGO availability.
A near life-size LEGO tribute to the first PlayStation
Measuring over 2.5 inches high, 10.5 inches wide, and 7.5 inches deep, the finished model sits close to the scale of the original console. LEGO lists it as an 18+ display build, and its size gives the recreation a convincing presence without turning it into a literal piece of furniture. Its design recreates the pre-DualShock era, including the original controller shape that many players will remember from the system’s earliest years.
Two classic PlayStation games are built into the display
The console is only part of the finished model. Opening the disc tray reveals two miniature dioramas based on Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, and both displays can be removed from the main build so they can stand separately. The console’s side sections pull away to release them from their storage area. The Gran Turismo scene features a miniature track and scaled-down cars, while the Ape Escape island adds a small character scene with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey’s helmet.
Physical details give the replica more than a purely static role. Its Power and Open buttons use functional mechanisms, and opening the tray reveals a built-in display area. LEGO also includes a buildable pre-DualShock controller with a pressable D-pad and face buttons. Its curved design is shaped to resemble the original PlayStation handset rather than a tiny decorative accessory. It can plug into a faux controller socket on the front of the console or sit separately as part of the display. More hidden references to PlayStation’s history are scattered throughout the build, giving collectors details to discover after construction is finished. An Astro Bot gift-with-purchase set may also be connected to the launch, but its availability and terms are not confirmed. LEGO generally offers GWP items through limited-time promotions rather than selling them individually, so buyers should not assume the bonus will come with every copy or remain available throughout the release period.
