Got Friends’ Taylorcraft BC-12D Brings 4 Distinct Variants to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

The Marketplace aircraft includes 20 liveries, 100+ Craft Pad options, and versions equipped with wheels, bush tires, skis, or floats.

Got Friends’ Taylorcraft BC-12D is now available through the in-sim Marketplace for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The aircraft includes 4 variants built for different kinds of flying, from classic wheeled operations to backcountry trips, snowy routes, and water landings.

Built as Got Friends’ final aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), the BC-12D serves as a detailed showcase of the team’s work on the platform. Microsoft Flight Simulator’s Taylorcraft BC-12D feature explains how the developers worked with experienced Taylorcraft pilots, real-world performance data, and recordings from real aircraft.

That attention to detail reaches beyond the exterior model. Players can open the cowlings, inspect the engine, look beneath the seats, and examine the fabric, hardware, and mechanical parts around the cockpit and airframe. Got Friends’ Reactive Motion system also drives hundreds of components from live aircraft telemetry, allowing engine vibration, suspension movement, fuel motion, doors, latches, and cabin accessories to respond to flight conditions.

The trailer offers a look at the aircraft’s different configurations and its operation across several environments.

Four variants cover wheels, tires, skis, and floats

Each version has its own equipment, engine setup, physics, and operating characteristics. That gives the BC-12D a broader range than a single aircraft configuration would provide.

Backcountry. The bush variant uses 26-inch tires and a Continental C-85 engine for rough-field flying and water-skimming operations.

Seafarer. This version replaces wheels with EDO 1320 floats and uses the Continental C-85. Its systems include paddle simulation, water handling, and anchoring.

Winter. Fixed Federal 1500 skis and a Continental A-65 engine prepare this configuration for snow-covered surfaces. The ski physics account for real-time snow and surface detection.

Classic. The period-focused setup uses 17-inch vintage wheels and a Continental A-65 engine.

Craft Pad customization reaches beyond paint jobs

The Got Friends Craft Pad provides more than 100 customization options covering instrumentation, avionics, exterior equipment, accessories, registrations, loadouts, visual details, and simulation preferences. Players can keep the aircraft period-correct, build a modern touring setup, or configure it for backcountry flying.

Flight systems include simulated hand-propping, compression, priming, and startup physics, along with carburetor heat, engine icing, and weather-dependent starting. A ground-adjustable propeller offers 6 pitch settings, while custom propeller drag, windmilling, and in-flight wind-start physics add more detail to the aircraft’s behavior in the air.

The BC-12D also features physics-based propeller, door, and latch failures. Interactive cowlings, fuel caps, an oil dipstick, covers, chocks, and tie-downs give pilots more to manage before and after a flight.

Avionics support includes a classic radio, GNS-430, PMS50 GTN-650, and TDS GTN-650Xi setups, alongside a custom KAP-140 autopilot and several instrument panel configurations. The aircraft also includes frost, icing, rain, water spray, snow, dirt, and damage effects, plus multiplayer visibility options for aerobatic smoke.

The Taylorcraft BC-12D is available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 through Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. It is also available for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
