SCUM’s August Update Is Live With Underground Facilities and Mutant Bears
Version 1.3.3.0.144566 also reworks cooking, adds Food Effects, and penalizes repeated deaths with a temporary status.

SCUM‘s Into the Wild August Update is live, adding underground TEC1 Research Facilities, mutant bears, new Master Hunter quests, and a collection of survival-system changes in version 1.3.3.0.144566. Cooking is faster, 15 new Heatless recipes can be prepared without equipment, and repeated deaths now apply the Cloning Sickness condition.
Gamepires detailed the full update in its official Steam announcement. The live build follows the earlier August 24 update preview, which outlined the new facilities and cooking systems.
The Stalker Outfit Pack is also available separately. It contains a complete outfit set and a bone tomahawk.
TEC1 Research Facilities take the hunt underground
Three converted underground bunker entrances now lead to TEC1 Research Facilities hidden beneath the Island. Each location uses the same layout and challenge, but prisoners will need a Research Facility Keycard to open the door.
Keycards can come from certain Master Hunter quests or rare loot elsewhere on the Island. They expire after a limited period and are consumed on use. A single card is enough for an entire group, although the entrance locks once a run begins and stays closed until the Facility resets.
Every run starts a ten-minute purge. The first containment-area door opens for 30 seconds, so the group must be ready to move before the countdown begins. Anyone left behind after the door closes cannot enter that area.
Inside, mutant bears will not flee. They can flank prisoners, react to careless gunfire, and change positions between runs. Reaching the deepest section provides access to rare medical and scientific loot, which spawns when the purge begins and refreshes for every run. Groups carrying several Keycards can run the Facility repeatedly and receive a fresh loot set each time.
Mutant bears add new Master Hunter objectives
Mutant bears also appear at specific locations across the Island. Hunters Grotto now has a map showing known sightings, giving the Master Hunter questline a dangerous new target.

The questline includes several new Tier 3 hunts focused on mutant wildlife. Completing the required objectives awards a Research Facility Keycard and unlocks Apex Hunt, a Tier 4 mission that sends players into a Facility to eliminate every mutant bear inside.

New hunt rewards include a weapon charm, a mounted skull trophy, and Master Hunter headgear.
Cooking gets faster and more important
SCUM‘s metabolism system now gives food choices more weight. Digestion affects Energy Burn Rate, while nutrient levels can provide buffs or apply debuffs tied to exhaustion, healing, sickness, and movement.
The new Hands option in the Cooking menu allows prisoners to prepare food without equipment. Heatless recipes include 10 salads—Cheese Mixed Salad, Cucumber Salad, Fish Salad, Fruit Salad, Lettuce Salad, Mixed Salad, Sauerkraut Salad, Tomato Salad, Waldorf Salad, and Improvised Salad—along with five sandwiches: Tuna Sandwich, Bean Sandwich, Cheese Sandwich, Spon™ Sandwich, and Improvised Sandwich.
Hands-prepared meals count as cooked food and provide the same digestion benefits as meals made on a stove. Heatless recipes cannot continue into overtime after they finish.

Existing food and drink recipes now cook faster, except for the four smoked recipes, which keep their previous times. Depending on the recipe and Cooking skill, the reductions range from approximately 25% to 69%. Timers now show real-world time instead of in-game time.
| Cooking Skill | Grilled Veggie | Cabbage Rolls and Gumbo |
|---|---|---|
| No Skill | 0:19 to 0:13 | 37:30 to 13:01 |
| Basic | 0:16 to 0:10 | 32:49 to 10:51 |
| Medium | 0:14 to 0:08 | 28:08 to 8:41 |
| Advanced | 0:12 to 0:07 | 23:26 to 7:36 |
| Above Advanced | 0:09 to 0:06 | 18:45 to 6:31 |
Digesting food now temporarily increases the prisoner’s Energy Burn Rate. Cooked food has the lowest increase at 5%, while canned and processed food reaches 18%. Fresh fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, plants, insects, and nuts add 7.5%; MREs and eggs add 8%; raw fish adds 10%; butter, animal fat, and black pepper add 13%; and crackers, mayonnaise, ketchup, ground coffee, cream, yeast, CandyBob, and CandyCorn add 15%.
When several foods with different values are digesting at once, the Energy Burn Rate UI displays the median increase. Raw meat, medications, and snowballs do not add to the digestion burn rate, although raw meat and some unprocessed foods can build Food Repulsion. Filling that bar causes the prisoner to vomit.
Healthy nutrient levels can now activate paired effects:
- Vigor reduces exhaustion gain and stamina loss, while Lethargy increases both. Protein, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, Vitamin B2, and Vitamin B5 affect these effects.
- Mending increases healing speed and resistance to bleeding, while Erosion reduces both and causes greater blood loss from injuries. Vitamin C, zinc, Vitamin B5, copper, and manganese affect them.
- Resilience improves resistance to sickness by strengthening the immune system, while Run Down weakens that resistance. Vitamin C, Vitamin D, zinc, and selenium affect these effects.
- Stability increases movement speed while limping, while Instability reduces it further. Vitamin C, Vitamin K, calcium, phosphorus, and copper affect them.
Cloning Sickness makes repeated respawns more costly
Respawning after death now applies Cloning Sickness, regardless of how the prisoner died. The condition starts at C1 and becomes more severe if another death occurs before recovery finishes.
At C1, health, energy, water, vitamin levels, and Fame Point gains are temporarily reduced by 10%. Each additional severity level adds another 10% reduction, reaching 40% at C4. Higher levels can also cause headaches and further affect performance, exertion, and immunity.
| Severity | Recovery begins after | Recovery duration |
|---|---|---|
| C1 | 10 minutes | 5 minutes |
| C2 | 15 minutes | 7.5 minutes |
| C3 | 20 minutes | 10 minutes |
| C4 | 30 minutes | 15 minutes |
Recovery begins automatically, with more severe cases taking longer to clear. Phoenix Tears immediately move Cloning Sickness into recovery, and using them after recovery has started cuts the remaining time by 50%.
Recovery cannot begin while Acute Radiation Sickness, Infection, or Sepsis is active. Those conditions must be treated first. Cloning Sickness is active on Official Servers and enabled by default on private servers, where owners can turn it off.
