The Esports World Cup 2026 Counter-Strike 2 playoff draw is complete, and it has created a serious traffic jam for three of the tournament’s biggest contenders. Spirit, Vitality, and Falcons landed on the same side of the bracket, meaning only one of them can reach the grand final.
The 16-team field will play through a single-elimination bracket, with the grand final scheduled for August 23 at Paris’ Accor Arena.
Group-stage upsets helped produce the unusual layout. First- and second-place teams were assigned to separate pools for the draw, but the resulting bracket still placed three heavyweight teams on one side while leaving FURIA on the opposite half.
Falcons and Spirit face immediate tests
Falcons will begin their playoff run against The MongolZ, while Spirit will meet B8. Vitality drew FaZe, setting up another difficult opening-round series before either team can think about the later stages.
FaZe and Vitality will meet in a rematch of an earlier online contest that helped FaZe reach the BLAST Bounty LAN finals. Vitality reached the playoffs after a surprise group-stage defeat to B8, then answered with a decisive win over Lynn Vision. Spirit also suffered a surprise best-of-one loss to JiJieHao before securing its place in the knockout bracket. Coach Sergey ‘hally’ Shavayev has faced scrutiny after Spirit produced stronger performances while he was away with an illness.
Falcons enter the bracket after winning the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, a triumph that completed Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač’s trophy set.
FURIA will open against Aurora on the other side of the bracket. That half also contains G2, Astralis, FUT, magic, GamerLegion, MOUZ, Natus Vincere, and Legacy.
On paper, MOUZ, GamerLegion, FUT, FURIA, Aurora, G2, and Astralis have a less crowded route to the final. MOUZ enters after winning BLAST Bounty Season 2 in Malta, but FUT already defeated the team during the EWC group stage. FURIA and Aurora both reached the IEM Cologne 2026 Major semifinals from opposite sides of the bracket, although Aurora now has a different lineup.
