Halo Rumors Tie Activision to a Prototype and Sledgehammer-Led Project
The unverified claims also say more than 15 studios contributed across Halo: Campaign Evolved, including work on enemy AI, level design, and gameplay systems.

Halo’s next chapter may be taking a much more distributed development route. Unverified claims point to Activision testing a basic multiplayer prototype for a new Halo game in June, with Sledgehammer Games reportedly positioned to lead if the project moves forward.
The early build reportedly reached only the blockout phase, where basic systems such as player movement were tested, before the prototype was canceled in early July. Microsoft was reportedly still considering whether Activision should work on Halo projects, but no game had been approved.
The discussion also linked the next Halo project to the reported code name Project Ecker and a possible multiplayer focus. It remains unclear whether Project Ecker is connected to the canceled Activision pitch or represents a separate effort.
More than 15 studios reportedly worked on Halo: Campaign Evolved
The same claims describe Halo: Campaign Evolved as a project involving more than 15 studios. Their work allegedly covered the game from end to end, including enemy AI, level design, gameplay systems, and other core development areas.
That production model could explain the proposed plan for future Halo projects. Outsourced teams would handle much of the game’s construction to shorten development time, while Halo Studios would focus on creating content for the project.
Sledgehammer Games could lead the rumored Halo project
Sledgehammer Games is reportedly the studio that would lead Activision’s Halo effort. The claims point to multiplayer, but do not explain what kind of game it would be beyond that focus or whether the proposal remains under consideration.
For now, the Activision connection and the wider outsourcing plan remain unconfirmed rumors. No official announcement has established that a new Halo game is being developed by Activision or led by Sledgehammer Games.
