Modern Warfare 4 Beta Weapons Guide Covers All 22 Weapons and Apex Attachments
The beta includes 22 weapons across nine classes, with most supporting a weapon-specific Apex Attachment earned through weapon progression.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 gives Beta players access to 22 weapons from the 33 planned for launch, covering nine classes and several different combat roles. Most weapons can be leveled, customized in Gunsmith, and pushed toward a weapon-specific Apex Attachment. Activision’s official Modern Warfare 4 weapons guide details every weapon, its Player Rank requirement, maximum weapon level, and available Apex options.
Access is split between immediate unlocks, Player Rank milestones, Default Loadouts, and one Campaign Mission. Players working through the level ladder can also use our beta progression guide, while the equipment unlock guide covers the rest of the tools used in a custom class.

How Weapon Progression Works
Player Rank controls when weapons become available, while each weapon has its own level track. Reaching the final level on a supported weapon unlocks its Apex Attachment. Standard Gunsmith attachments are equipped separately, and an Apex Attachment does not use one of the regular attachment slots.
Apex Attachments do more than adjust a few numbers. They can add alternate fire modes, built-in equipment, special ammunition, tracking tools, or entirely different ways to use a weapon. The Hyeon Burst has two Apex choices, while several other weapons have one.

Assault Rifles
Assault Rifles cover the middle ground between close-range speed and long-range accuracy. They are the easiest class to adapt to when a match keeps changing its distance and pace.
Han 86
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 68.
The South Korean 5.56 rifle fires quickly and deals moderate damage, giving it a place in both close fights and longer lanes. Its Apex Attachment, HAN 86 X20 SKYBREAKER, adds a targeting optic and a 20mm airburst launcher. The shell detonates at a selected point and can force enemies out of cover.
M4
Unlock: Player Rank 9. Maximum level: 68.
The fully automatic M4 is built as a flexible service rifle for a wide range of engagements. M4 HURRICANE converts it into a top-loading, high-capacity 5.7x28mm variant inspired by bullpup designs. The result is a lighter, more mobile weapon with a fast rate of fire.
Hyeon Burst
Unlock: Player Rank 18. Maximum level: 64.
This North Korean 6.8 SPC prototype fires hard-hitting bursts. Its first Apex option, HYEON AUTO, changes the rifle to fully automatic fire and favors sustained output over precision. HYEON HYPERBURST opens with a very fast three-round burst before moving into controlled automatic fire.
Kastov 762
Unlock: Player Rank 21. Maximum level: 71.
The full-auto 7.62x39mm rifle hits hard but produces firm recoil, so it rewards players who can keep the sight steady. Kastov 545 changes the weapon to 5.45x39mm ammunition for smoother handling and faster follow-up shots. Kastov ARC adds an integrated optic and an RF pulse that can incapacitate infantry, disrupt electronics, and destabilize vehicles in its path.
Patriot XMR
Unlock: Player Rank 25. Maximum level: 64.
The fully automatic Patriot XMR delivers high impact at mid to long range, although its recoil calls for controlled bursts. PATRIOT XMR VOLT adds an underbarrel launcher that fires several 50,000V darts in a wide spread. The darts do not kill targets directly, but they can disrupt fine motor control and leave opponents open.
Axion
Unlock: Default Loadout only. Maximum level: 67.
Built around .300 Blackout ammunition, the Axion combines moderate recoil with solid impact and a fast cyclic rate. Its weapon entry names AXION CRUSADER as an Apex conversion, adding a saw stock and side grip for a compact, aggressive setup. However, the Beta access note says Default Loadout weapons such as Axion do not have Gunsmith or Apex Attachment access.
Submachine Guns
SMGs are made for fast movement and close-range pressure. They can overwhelm opponents quickly, but their performance falls away when the fight stretches across a long sightline.

ISO Nightshade
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 56.
This full-auto 9x19mm SMG has a quick firing rhythm and strong class-level impact, balanced by a clear recoil pattern. ISO TRACE uses RFID ammunition to tag targets on impact. Their movement and direction then appear as a red dot on the optic’s integrated display.
PPSh-41
Unlock: Player Rank 11. Maximum level: 54.
The PPSh-41 brings a very high rate of fire and a generous ammunition supply to close-range fights. Its PPSH-41 EMBER underbarrel fires a burst of pyrotechnic projectiles that leaves an incendiary area burning for a short period, giving the weapon a way to block routes and control tight spaces.
X-58 Nyx
Unlock: Player Rank 27. Maximum level: 47.
An integrally suppressed, subsonic SMG, the X-58 Nyx combines low recoil with high impact and a steady firing rhythm. X-58 VOID makes it even harder to trace by hiding skull markers on enemy deaths and reducing directional hit indicators.
WZ. 55 Striga
Unlock: Campaign Mission only. Maximum level: 52.
The 9x18mm WZ. 55 Striga offers strong mobility, low recoil, and heavy impact for a weapon with a slower rate of fire. Its listed Apex Attachment is [CLASSIFIED], and the weapon itself is limited to the Campaign Mission rather than the normal custom weapon pool.
Shotguns and Light Machine Guns
Rezi 12
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 60.
The semi-automatic 12-gauge Rezi 12 cycles quickly and delivers controlled close-range blasts. REZI 12 ENFORCER changes it to pump-action operation and adds a side-saddle loaded with explosive slugs, giving the shotgun more reach and utility than its standard setup.
FiNN LMG
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 52.
The 5.56x45mm FiNN LMG is tuned for mobile sustained fire, pairing high impact with a steady firing rhythm. FINN ADVERSE pushes its rate of fire past normal operating limits. Holding the trigger too long can overheat the weapon, forcing it to cool before full-auto fire returns.
Type 73
Unlock: Player Rank 5. Maximum level: 57.
The 7.62x54R Type 73 has a fast cycle and balanced recoil. Its TYPE 73 ASSAULT kit adds a top-mounted magazine filled with explosive rounds. The magazine carries limited ammunition, but each hit delivers a heavy punch.
Marksman Rifles
MAR-9
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 67.
The 7.62 NATO MAR-9 is a semi-automatic marksman rifle built for accurate mid to long-range fire. Its heavy barrel and tuned gas system support a stable platform. MAR-9 AUTO converts it to fully automatic fire and gives up some of the base weapon’s precision for a higher rate of fire.
Oris 8.6
Unlock: Player Rank 14. Maximum level: 68.
This lightweight bolt-action rifle uses 8.6 Blackout ammunition and fits precision shooting into a compact frame. ORIS 8.6 RAZOR attaches a blade module containing two rapidly deployable kunai, giving the rifle a quiet close-range fallback.
Sniper Rifles
KG-7 Vulcan
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 72.
The high-capacity, bolt-action KG-7 Vulcan is built for long-range precision while allowing a faster follow-up rhythm than many rifles in its class. KG-9 DRILLCHARGE mounts Drill charges to the side of the rifle. Each projectile bores into a surface before detonating, making it useful against enemies hiding behind cover.
Signal .50
Unlock: Player Rank 30. Maximum level: 73.
This .50-caliber anti-materiel rifle uses a reciprocating barrel to reduce recoil and keep follow-up shots stable. SIGNAL 50 INFERNO loads the weapon with .50 Cal Incendiary Rounds, which increase damage against vehicles and Killstreaks.
Pistols and Close-Range Weapons
Krait P68
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 34.
The semi-automatic .45 ACP Krait P68 is a dependable close-range sidearm with quick handling. KRAIT P68 COMMANDO adds an icepick-grip tactical knife that improves melee damage and lunge distance. The off-hand grip also helps control recoil.
.50 GS
Unlock: Player Rank 23. Maximum level: 50.
The .50 GS delivers heavy damage when its recoil is kept under control. GS MAGNA converts it to fully automatic fire, creating a much faster and louder sidearm that trades precision for raw output.
Sang 9mm
Unlock: Default Loadout only. Maximum level: 34.
The lightweight 9x19mm Sang 9mm cycles quickly and handles easily, although it gives up impact compared with heavier pistols. Its weapon entry names SANG 9&12, an underbarrel single-shot 12-gauge chamber that adds a breaching blast. The Beta access note says Default Loadout weapons do not have Gunsmith or Apex Attachment access.
PILA
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 36.
The portable PILA can fire guided or unguided missiles, making it useful against vehicles, equipment, and Killstreaks as well as groups of enemies. It has no Gunsmith or Apex Attachment system.
Combat Knife
Unlock: Immediately. Maximum level: 30.
The Combat Knife is a lightweight melee weapon built for silent close-range eliminations. It has no ranged function, Gunsmith customization, or Apex Attachment.
Gunny and the Firing Range
Gunny, short for Gunnery Sergeant, is an optional build recommender inside Create a Class. It uses the attachments already unlocked on a weapon to generate setups for short-range, balanced, or long-range play. Infinity Ward’s developers created the recommended builds, and Gunny updates its suggestions as more of the arsenal becomes available.
Gunny is useful when you want to get into a match without spending time on every attachment choice, but its recommendations are only a starting point. You can edit any build manually or use it as a foundation for your own setup.
The Firing Range lets you compare weapon builds, test attachments, and check how a gun behaves before taking it into a match. Try it whenever a new weapon or Apex Attachment opens, especially when a conversion changes the weapon’s fire mode or ammunition.
Gunsmith Attachment Tips
Gunsmith includes optics, lasers, barrels, muzzles, underbarrels, stocks, rear grips, ammunition, and magazines. Each category changes a different part of a weapon’s handling or battlefield role, so a build should start with the distance and job you expect it to handle.
- Optics change how quickly you can acquire and track targets.
- Lasers can tighten hip-fire spread, support Canted Stance, or reveal enemies, although some make your position easier to spot.
- Barrels and muzzles can alter damage range, bullet velocity, recoil, suppression, and shot control.
- Underbarrels and stocks affect recoil, aiming stability, mobility, accuracy, flinch resistance, and handling.
- Rear grips can improve Aim Down Sight and Sprint-to-Fire speeds.
- Ammunition and magazines can change ballistic behavior, penetration, damage range, capacity, or reload speed.
Attachments unlock once rather than separately for every weapon that uses them. When a weapon level would award an attachment you already own, the progression system skips that duplicate reward with a Bonus Level Up. Each weapon can still unlock all attachments available to its platform, so focusing on a favorite gun does not force you to grind another weapon first.
Compatible 1mW and 5mW Canted Lasers open access to Canted Stance, which improves aiming responsiveness and movement while aiming, though the visible laser can give away your position. Hollow Point ammunition also returns, delaying enemy healing and leaving critically injured Operators with a blood trail.
With nine classes and 22 Beta weapons, the best starting point is to try more than one role before committing to a single build. Level the weapons that fit your preferred range, then use Gunsmith, Gunny, and the Firing Range to turn that preference into a class that feels right.
