Silent Hill: Townfall will arrive on PS5 and PC on September 24, 2026, and the first preview coverage has revealed several details about how Simon’s journey through St. Amelia will work. The game is still a few months away, but its core systems are already coming into focus.
The early sections appear to place as much importance on observation and planning as direct combat. A strange CRTV device, a limited map, stealth options, and a revival item all look like key parts of surviving the town’s horrors.
The CRTV Is Simon’s Main Tool
Simon’s CRTV is far more than a piece of atmosphere. The device provides clues that can point toward the next step in the current objective, while its signal can also reveal the location and distance of nearby enemies.
That tracking function works through walls, giving Simon a way to judge whether a threat is close before moving into danger. The CRTV also plays a role in puzzles, so keeping it available should be part of the normal routine rather than an occasional option.
Combat Rewards Patience
Townfall’s combat is built around melee weapons, with firearms appearing less often. The previews suggest that avoiding enemies will usually be safer than trying to clear every encounter.
One reported example involved a revolver that created more problems than it solved. The gun’s noise drew additional enemies, while the limited ammunition made it impossible to deal with everything that arrived. That gives stealth and careful positioning a clear purpose, rather than treating weapons as the answer to every threat.
The combination of hiding from monsters and using the CRTV to follow their positions has drawn comparisons to Alien: Isolation, though Townfall places those ideas inside the Silent Hill series’ own psychological-horror setting.
A Filled IV Bag Can Bring Simon Back
Death does not always mean restarting from a previous checkpoint. If Simon has a Filled IV Bag equipped when he dies in battle, the item can revive him where he fell.
The revival leaves him with only a small amount of health, so it is a second chance rather than a full reset. Recovering HP will still be necessary before taking on another dangerous encounter.
St. Amelia Is Open Without Being an Open World
The early part of St. Amelia appears to give Simon room to walk through its streets and inspect the surrounding area. New sections will still depend on story progress, meaning the town is open to roam without functioning as one unrestricted open-world map.
A hand-drawn map marks Simon’s position along with telephone boxes and locked doors. The opening area also uses numbers written on the pamphlet Simon is working on, although the previews did not provide a legend explaining what each number represents.
The Game Uses a Wide Cinematic Frame
Townfall uses a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, leaving black bars along the top and bottom of the screen. The presentation was designed around that format, so the bars are part of the intended image rather than a sign that visual content is being cut away.
The previews did not indicate that players will be able to remove the bars and fill a standard television display. Anyone who prefers a full-screen image may want to keep that presentation choice in mind before launch.
PS5 Pro Offers the Strongest Technical Presentation
On the base PS5, Townfall will include Quality and Performance modes. Quality runs at 30 frames per second, while Performance targets 60 frames per second.
The PS5 Pro version is already using PSSR2 to produce a higher-resolution image. Ray tracing is also supported, though the preview information did not confirm whether that feature will be exclusive to PS5 Pro or available on the base console as well.
What the Early Previews Are Saying
The first few hours have received a positive response from several outlets. GameSpot’s hands-on preview praised the mix of CRTV use and stealth, while Polygon’s preview highlighted the unsettling opening and Simon’s difficult journey through the town.
Those impressions line up with the systems shown so far. Townfall appears to be using its tools, map, combat design, and presentation style to keep players uncertain about what is waiting around the next corner.
