Silent Hill: Townfall Will Have Five Endings, but Two Stay Hidden Until New Game+

Three main endings will be available during a first playthrough, while the two secret conclusions require New Game+.

Silent Hill: Townfall will include five different endings, continuing the series’ tradition of branching conclusions. Three of them will be available during a first playthrough, while the remaining two secret endings will require New Game+.

The game will not decide its ending through one final dialogue option or a single obvious choice. Instead, the outcome will reflect how the entire playthrough unfolded and how the player interacted with Townfall’s various systems.

How Silent Hill: Townfall’s Endings Will Work

Series producer Motoi Okamoto and director Jon McKellan discussed the ending system in an interview with One More Game. According to McKellan, player decisions will shape a conclusion that fits the way the story was experienced.

Those decisions will include more than conversations and story selections. The game will also track factors such as how aggressively the player approaches situations and how much time they spend investigating. McKellan described these as several different attributes that influence the final result.

“The choices you make as a player throughout will determine the ending, and it should feel that the ending is very appropriate to the experience you had. The goal is for the player to feel like it’s the natural conclusion to the story in terms of the way they played.”

That means the three main endings should not require players to finish the game once before accessing the others. Each can be reached during a first run, although the specific ending will depend on the player’s overall behavior.

The two secret endings are more restricted. Players will need to start a New Game+ run to pursue them, but the developers have not shared the extra conditions. Keeping those requirements hidden is part of what makes the endings secret.

The team also hopes the different conclusions will give players plenty to discuss after the credits. With the ending tied to personal decisions and playstyle, separate playthroughs may lead to very different interpretations of the story.
