Sega says Persona 6 is only the beginning of Persona’s 30th anniversary plans

Sega president Shuji Utsumi said Persona 4 Revival will give fans another major reason to celebrate during the series' 30th anniversary year.

The Persona 6 teaser was only the opening move in Sega’s plans for the series’ 30th anniversary, according to Sega president Shuji Utsumi. He said the company has more planned for the franchise during 2026, with Persona 4 Revival serving as another major moment for fans.

Speaking in an interview with Famitsu, Utsumi said Sega was “very confident” that its anniversary plans would satisfy Persona fans. The comments came after the company revealed Persona 6, which he described as the start of a memorable year for the franchise.

“I think we were able to announce a truly memorable year for Persona’s 30th anniversary,” Utsumi said. “Hype for the series has been built by Persona 6’s reveal.”

He also pointed to Persona 4 Revival as the next major source of attention for the series. “And I think Persona 4 Revival will spark fan excitement again,” Utsumi continued. “I’m sure everyone will feel the same way, and I’m very confident we’ll give the Persona series the lively 30th anniversary celebration it deserves.”

Persona’s long road to its 30th anniversary

The Persona series began with Revelations: Persona, which launched on the original PlayStation in 1996. The game grew out of Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei franchise but placed more attention on character relationships and narrative progression than its demon-battling predecessor.

Since then, the series has moved far beyond its early isometric presentation. Later entries became known for their stylish interfaces, school-life settings, social links, and character-focused stories. Sega’s comments suggest that Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival will not be the only pieces of the anniversary celebration, though the company has not detailed the other plans.

Persona fans now have two confirmed focal points for 2026, while Sega keeps the rest of its anniversary schedule under wraps. Share your thoughts on the series’ 30th anniversary plans in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
