MindsEye Turns Football Into a 6v6 Grenade Launcher Battle

MindsEye has added a new multiplayer mode that replaces ordinary footballs and boots with grenade launchers. The 6v6 activity, called Grenade Football, arrived as part of Update 8 from developer Build a Rocket Boy.

The rules are simple, at least on paper. Teams use grenade launchers to hit a ball and send it into the opposing net, turning the match into a loud and explosive spin on Rocket League. Players still compete on a football pitch, but accuracy matters more than dribbling when every shot can launch the ball across the arena.

Build a Rocket Boy describes the mode as a match where players “grab a grenade launcher, line up your shot, and blast the ball into the net with your team.” It is a strange direction for a game that has already had plenty of serious discussion around its launch and ongoing development.

The announcement has not received much visible attention from the community so far. Comments under the mode’s trailer included jokes about the game moving from Grand Theft Auto 5-style action toward Rocket League, while the mode itself appeared to attract little online conversation.

The update arrives during a difficult period for Build a Rocket Boy. The studio has continued to face criticism surrounding MindsEye, while its publishing partnership with IO Interactive ended earlier this year.

Whether Grenade Football can bring more players to the game remains unclear. For now, it stands as one of the more unexpected additions to MindsEye, and possibly the only football mode where missing the goal can send an explosive projectile flying through the stadium.
