Modern Warfare 4’s Kill Block Turns Every Match Into a New Battlefield

The modular multiplayer facility will launch with more than 500 possible layouts, 3v3 Gunfight, and the new Gunfight 10v10 mode on October 23, 2026.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will introduce Kill Block, a multiplayer facility that changes its layout between matches and Gunfight rounds. The mode will be available when the game launches on October 23, 2026, and more than 500 configurations are planned at launch. Activision detailed the mode in its official Kill Block briefing.

Kill Block will first be available to members of the public attending Fanatics Fest NYC, which takes place at the Javits Center from July 16 through July 19. The facility is built around a simple idea: players may recognize parts of the battlefield, but the full combat space will keep changing around them.

Three Slabs Make One Kill Block Map

Kill Block is set inside the fictional West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility. Each match combines three modular sections, known as Slabs. Two End Slabs sit on either side of a Central Slab, forming a rectangular map called a Combo.

Every Slab brings its own routes, cover, elevation changes, doors, sightlines, and chokepoints. Some sections feature streets and compounds made from shipping containers, temporary facades, timber structures, vehicles, barriers, and military training props. Others take inspiration from familiar Call of Duty locations, including Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Storage Town from Call of Duty: Warzone, and Shoot House from Modern Warfare (2019).

Those returning locations will not play exactly as they did before. Their surrounding Slabs can change from match to match, creating new approaches and altering the sightlines players thought they knew.

How the Facility Reconfigures

The fictional training compound uses eight concrete towers packed with electronics, motors, and pulley systems. The three active Slabs rest on rail-mounted wheel assemblies called bogies, with tracks running above and below the training area.

When the map changes, one Slab separates from the others and lowers into a storage chamber beneath the arena. A different section then moves along the rail system, locks into place, and creates the next Combo. The result is a battlefield that can change without simply loading an entirely separate traditional map.

Each Combo keeps roughly the same overall footprint as Shoot House from 2019. Players can move through all three sections, while perimeter markings help them identify their position. Letter-and-number markers cover the surrounding walls, giving squads another way to call out enemy locations during a match.

Weather Can Change the Fight

Some Slabs will include simulated weather. Fans and water systems can send mist, rain, or snow across the combat area, changing visibility and the way players read distant angles. Weapons can also show weather effects, including wet surfaces or ice particles that remain until the player reloads or switches weapons.

That means a familiar lane may not remain equally clear for the entire match. A snow flurry in a Central Slab can limit visibility, while a different Combo may give long-range positions a much cleaner view.

Kill Block Gunfight Modes

Kill Block will launch with Gunfight 3v3 and the new Gunfight 10v10 mode. Both use single-life rounds and shared randomized equipment. Players will not bring custom loadouts, putting the focus on communication, weapon handling, and quick decisions.

If a round reaches its time limit without a full team elimination, an Overtime Flag will appear. Capturing it wins the round, although teams can also try to preserve a health advantage if the timer expires.

Teams switch sides after the opening round. Once the second round ends, the Slabs are replaced with a new Combo and every player receives another random loadout. The map and equipment continue changing after every two rounds until one team reaches six wins.

More Multiplayer Content Is Planned

Kill Block will be one part of Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer offering. The game will launch with 12 Core maps, larger combined-arms battles with armored vehicles, Hardcore variants, classic modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint, plus Party Modes. Two additional Core maps are planned shortly after launch.

Infinity Ward also designed the West Bridge facility to support more Core multiplayer modes in post-launch seasons. The developer has not named those future modes yet, but Kill Block will not be limited to its launch Gunfight lineup.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam, as well as Nintendo Switch 2. Tell us what you think of Kill Block in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
