This Vampire RPG Treats Time Like a Weapon

Rebel Wolves' debut arrives on September 3, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud with Xbox Play Anywhere support.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is shaping up to be much more than another vampire-flavored action RPG. Rebel Wolves’ debut is due on September 3, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud, with Xbox Play Anywhere support folded in so one purchase covers both console and PC.

Bandai Namco is publishing the game, which casts players as Coen in 14th-century Carpathia. The setup is simple in the best way. Coen’s family is taken hostage, his new powers come with a curse, and the clock is already ticking on how long he has to fix any of it.

That ticking clock is the whole point. In the hands-on preview, every day and night was divided into eight chunks, and even small favors burned through precious time. There is no clean split between main quests and side work, because almost everything the player does pushes the month closer to its end. Rebel Wolves leans into that pressure instead of hiding it.

The result is a structure that feels more like a narrative sandbox than a straight path through a quest log. Coen can pursue Brencis and his lieutenants in different orders, and some areas and quests only open up in his human or vampire forms. That gives the game room to react to player choices without pretending those choices are free.

Combat also has a bit more bite than the usual action-RPG setup. Attacks come with directional prompts, and matching the stick movement to the strike can turn a block into a clean parry. Coen can fight as a human with swordplay and blood magic or switch to his vampire side at night for claws, wall-climbing, and faster travel. Once he changes, blood replaces food as the way to recover.

What stands out most is how much the writing seems to matter. Coen’s conversations with Anca and the rest of the valley give the story some real texture, and the preview suggested that smaller choices can echo later in ways that feel earned. For a first game from Rebel Wolves, that is a strong opening move.

The Blood of Dawnwalker still has months to go before launch, but its mix of time pressure, reactive storytelling, and harsh combat already gives it a clear identity. Tell us what you think in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
