Paradox used a new Hearts of Iron IV Dev Corner to ask players how civil-war starts actually feel, and it made one thing clear from the jump. This is not a civil-war rework announcement. The studio said it wants feedback on how those runs play, what lands well, and what does not.
The prompt focuses on the kind of playthrough where you plan to take over as the breakaway nation, such as fascist UK or Communist Japan. Paradox asked what players do before the civil war begins, including how they move through the focus tree, whether they rush the civil-war branch or follow the common routes, and how they manage the starting country’s army and industry.
It also asked what gets in the way of a good run and what makes the payoff feel worth the trouble. That includes the bigger question at the center of these paths, which is whether a civil-war route can feel narratively rewarding even when it leaves the player objectively weaker than a standard campaign.
The post then drew a line between Dev Corners and Dev Diaries. Dev Corners are short, feedback-first posts that may hint at future content, but nothing is guaranteed, and they are not usually planned far in advance. In plain terms, Paradox is listening before it decides what comes next.
