PlayStation said Free Update 4 will arrive alongside Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations on July 7, and PS5 Pro owners will get the upgraded PSSR image reconstruction mode with it. The feature is meant to give idTech8 a steadier, cleaner image while DOOM’s combat keeps moving at full speed.

The tech leans on machine learning to rebuild the final image from the frames idTech8 renders, using motion, depth, exposure and sub-pixel data to keep the picture more stable in motion. That matters in a game built around sprinting, parries, Shield-Saw hits and scenes packed with thin geometry, particles and distant enemies.
It also fits the broader push Sony has been making on its upgraded console. The company added a system-wide PSSR 2 toggle in March, and the rollout details are covered in a March PS5 firmware update report.
For PS5 Pro players, the takeaway is simple. Doom: The Dark Ages will still play like DOOM, but the image should hold together a little better when the screen is full of motion, effects and metal.
