Bungie is nerfing Marathon’s most oppressive endgame gun after player backlash
The Biotoxic Disinjector is getting a 35% damage cut, with Bungie saying the weapon has become too dominant in Cryo Archive runs.

Bungie is moving to tone down Marathon‘s Biotoxic Disinjector after the weapon quickly became a headache for anyone running the game’s endgame Cryo Archive activity. The gun is one of the top rewards in that mode, and its grenade side has grown so strong that players who already own it can snowball their way through future runs.
The Biotoxic Disinjector mixes a trace rifle with a grenade launcher, and the problem is the explosive half. Its grenades can come close to one-shotting other players, bounce off walls, and stick to targets, which makes the weapon especially nasty in tight indoor fights. In a mode built around extracting gear and pushing deeper into dangerous encounters, that kind of loadout creates a harsh advantage for the players who are already ahead.
Bungie game director Joe Ziegler said the studio is taking a live pass at the weapon and cutting its damage by 35% for now. He also said the team may revisit the tuning later if needed, which leaves room for another adjustment once Bungie sees how the first nerf plays out.
Biotoxic Disinjector. It’s Strong! … too strong. Tonight Friday April 3rd at 6pm PT we will be doing a change on live taking it down a notch and nerfing its damage. We’re likely to make some adjustments to Biotox in the near future and may not stick to this damage nerf but for…

The timing makes sense. The weapon sits at the top of Marathon’s current gear chase, so the players who land it gain an edge in the same activity that awards it. That loop has drawn complaints from creators as well, with several pointing to the gun’s ability to shut down Cryo Archive runs before they really begin.
There is still a chance the grenade launcher portion remains strong after the adjustment, especially in cramped fights, but Bungie is clearly trying to stop the weapon from deciding entire encounters by itself. If the first pass is not enough, the studio may need to take another swing at it. For more on Bungie’s shooter, see our previous coverage of Marathon’s Tau Ceti Cup showmatch.
