Behaviour says Dead by Daylight will keep going without a sequel

At GDC, Mathieu Cote and Dave Richard said the studio has no plan to make players start over with a new Dead by Daylight release.

Behaviour Interactive has shut down the idea of Dead by Daylight 2. The studio said it does not plan to make fans leave the original game behind for a sequel.

Speaking with IGN at last month’s Game Developers Conference, head of partnerships Mathieu Cote and creative director Dave Richard said the team had discussed different routes for the franchise, including a second game and even a remake of the original. They ultimately decided that neither path made sense for the players who have already put time and money into Dead by Daylight.

Richard said the studio can reach a point where a sequel might look easier from a development standpoint, but that choice still would not serve the fan base. He said the team has no interest in asking players to start over.

Cote said Behaviour’s goal is to keep the game feeling current, even though Dead by Daylight is now 10 years old. The studio believes it can keep building on what already exists and carry the game into its next decade rather than move everyone to a follow-up. The message was plain enough to understand that Behaviour does not want a reset, and players should not expect to buy a new version just to keep up with the franchise.
