Team Fortress 2’s Operation Mooncrash Invites New Moon Base Creations

The community project will consider cosmetics, maps, weapons, war paints, and other contributions, with separate contests for war paints and map assets.

Team Fortress 2 is heading to the Moon with Operation Mooncrash, a community project focused on reviving and expanding the game’s Moon Base theme. The project was announced on the official Team Fortress 2 website.

TF2 Painter’s Workshop is accepting a wide range of creative work for consideration in the community collection. Contributions can include cosmetics, war paints, maps, weapons, weapon unusuals, map assets, and more. The project’s setting frames RED and BLU as rival forces racing to claim the lunar frontier.

Operation Mooncrash includes two creator contests

Alongside the broader project, Operation Mooncrash features contests dedicated to two item types. The War Paint contest includes categories for Standard and Limited Skins/UV/Dragon Slayer war paints.

The Map Asset contest covers several kinds of environmental work, including posters, world textures, gameplay assets, environment assets, and detail props. Participants will contribute across five subcategories, with five initial prize placements available.

Creators can still submit war paints and map assets for the community collection even after reaching the maximum number of contest entries. That gives artists another way to contribute to the Moon Base theme beyond the contest limits.

Operation Mooncrash is built around community-made content, so the finished collection can grow beyond the two contest categories and include work from creators with different specialties. Share your thoughts on the project in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
