Windrose passed 1.5 million Steam wishlists after 800,000 players tried the demo
Windrose Crew said the free demo will stay live until the game's Early Access launch and listed planned tweaks including improved single-ship co-op and expanded loot variety.

Developer Windrose Crew announced in a Steam update that the indie pirate survival game had surpassed 1,500,000 wishlists on Steam and that over 800,000 players sampled the free demo during Steam Next Fest. The studio confirmed the demo will remain available until Windrose reaches Early Access.
In the same update Windrose Crew thanked players directly and celebrated the demo’s reach. “You are amazing! Seriously, after climbing to the top demos of Steam Next Fest and reaching one million wishlists we were not expecting this momentum to continue, but here we are, with over 1,500,000 sea wolves waiting for Windrose to finally set sail,” they wrote on Steam.
The demo offers a substantial look at Windrose’s mix of survival crafting, ship sailing, naval combat, dungeon raids, and an early story inspired by historical events. Players can explore the first three islands, pick up early quests, and take part in on-the-water battles. The team clarified that progress made in the demo will not carry over to the full game.
Windrose Crew said it is using feedback from the demo to refine the Early Access build and shared a short, incomplete changelog of potential adjustments. Highlights the studio mentioned include:
- Improved one-ship co-op so multiple players can man a single vessel’s cannons
- More loot variety
- A possible increase to eight-player co-op, although the developers still recommend 1–4 players
The developer closed the update by thanking the community for its input and passion and said it would keep working to deliver the game at the best possible quality ahead of Early Access.
