The latest PS5 firmware update focuses on improving system stability and performance.

Sony has quietly released a new system update for the PlayStation 5 on July 15, labeled version 25.05-11.60.00.05. This update weighs in at 1.34 GB and appears to be a minor patch aimed at improving the console’s overall stability and performance rather than adding any new features.

Unlike some previous updates that brought visible changes, like the messaging improvements in June or the return of classic themes in April, this one arrives without much fanfare or detailed announcements from Sony. If you’re hoping for shiny new additions, you might be a bit disappointed. However, a more stable system is always a welcome thing, right?

Here’s what Sony officially notes about this update:

  • Improved system software performance and stability

It’s kinda funny how these stability updates become a bit of a running joke among console owners, but they do matter. A smoother system means fewer crashes, better load times, and less frustration overall. I’m all for that.

Aside from the update, Sony has recently launched the PlayStation Beta Program, which now includes PC players. This program lets participants try out upcoming features and improvements, including those for the PlayStation App. If you want to give it a shot, you can sign up, but there’s no promise you’ll be selected.
