Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has no GTA 6 update for Switch 2, pointing the question to Take-Two and Rockstar in a Variety interview. “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time,” she said. Pritchard also described Switch 2 as being at the beginning of what Nintendo is seeing the console can do.
Grand Theft Auto VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A GameSpot report cited insider claims of exploratory discussions about a Switch 2 version, but those claims have not produced a public announcement.
Former Rockstar open-world designer Jérémy Hartvick questioned the business and technical case for a port on the Kiwi Talkz podcast. He argued that GTA’s audience might buy a PS5 instead and wondered whether a Switch 2 version could deliver a subpar experience compared with playing on PS5. Those are Hartvick’s judgments, not a technical assessment of a Switch 2 build.
Grand Theft Auto has appeared on Nintendo hardware before, though its releases have been scattered. The first two games received Game Boy Color ports, Grand Theft Auto Advance launched exclusively on Game Boy Advance in 2004, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars debuted on DS in 2009. After a 13-year gap, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition brought Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to the original Switch in 2022. That history shows the series has reached Nintendo systems before, but it does not establish whether Rockstar will bring its next main entry to Switch 2.
Switch 2 already has mature-rated releases such as Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, and Elden Ring. Take-Two has supported the console with Civilization VII and NBA 2K26, while Rockstar brought Red Dead Redemption to the system in late 2025. Nintendo also has Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 planned for Switch 2 this fall, after more than a decade away from Nintendo consoles. These releases show that third-party games have a place on the system, but each publisher makes its own decision, and none confirms plans for GTA 6.
