So, the word on the street is that GTA 6 might not be rolling onto PC when it hits consoles later this year. In a recent chat with IGN, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, shed some light on the company’s strategy regarding platform releases. Spoiler alert: it sounds like they’re taking their sweet time.
Zelnick pointed out that historically, Take-Two hasn’t opted for simultaneous launches across all platforms. Instead, they prefer to kick things off with one or two consoles before branching out. With GTA 6, the focus is squarely on boosting sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch.
“When you have a big title in the market…historically that has sold consoles,” Zelnick explained. He also noted exceptions, like Civilization 7, which will hit multiple platforms right out of the gate.
Zelnick emphasized that they recognize how crucial the PC gaming market has become. According to him, PC versions can account for up to a whopping 40% of total sales for a game. That’s not something he overlooks.
“We have seen PC become much more important…and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue,” he said. So, while there’s no official announcement yet about when GTA fans can expect to play on their rigs, rest assured it’s in their sights eventually.
The clock is ticking as we await the fall launch of GTA 6. The anticipation is palpable; recent updates have sent Take-Two’s stock soaring to record heights as excitement builds within the community (they’re flying high!).
