Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said that the company doesn’t plan on releasing its triple-A titles on subscription services. Despite Microsoft’s effort to bring titles to Game Pass on Day One, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Take-Two has no plans for something like that yet.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick acknowledged that Microsoft’s decision would likely increase subscription numbers. “I think that offering a frontline title with a premium price in a subscription service, day and date, will push consumers to that subscription service for at least a period of time,”.
He also said that no matter the combo-wombo, Take-Two’s still has no plans to release big-budget games on services like Game Pass or PS Plus from day one.“No, it won’t affect our decisions. Because our decisions are rational,” Zelnick said.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, 2024, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one for the first time in its history. As for those who love CoD, don’t forget that Activision will host a full multiplayer reveal at the next Call of Duty Next event on August 28, with a beta exclusively available for pre-orders, running from August 30 to September 4. Furthermore, there will be a second beta weekend that will be open to all players from September 6-9.
But let’s all agree that Grand Theft Auto 6 is Take-Two Interactive’s most important game. Even though revealed that while some of Take-Two’s significant titles have long development cycles, such as Judas and GTA 6, other titles like NBA 2K and WWE 2K will maintain consistent release schedules. This positions Take-Two well to deliver on its pipeline, which includes 15 core games, one independent, five mobile releases, and three remasters over the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years.
“There are modest tailwinds which are positive,” Zelnick concluded. “It is our job to outperform the industry, and the only way to do that is to generate big hits, and I think we have all the necessary elements to deliver that.”
