WoW’s Patch 12.1 PTR finally lets ranged Hunters style their weapons
Blizzard's latest build lets bows, crossbows, and guns use weapon illusions, although the PTR pool is still limited for now.

World of Warcraft’s Patch 12.1 PTR build is finally giving ranged Hunters a transmog perk they have gone without for years. Bows, crossbows, and guns can now use weapon illusions.
That change closes a long-standing gap in the class. Weapon illusions have been part of WoW transmogrification since Legion, but Hunters were boxed out on ranged gear because those weapons did not work like enchanted melee weapons. Survival Hunters had a workaround through melee gear, while other Hunter builds were left with Engineering scopes.
The feature is still in testing, and the current illusion list on the PTR is limited to enchants from recent expansions. More options could show up before the patch arrives.
Patch Notes
The update is narrow, but it has a real impact for players who care about weapon appearance. Ranged Hunters are no longer locked out of the illusion system just because they are not carrying a melee weapon.
- Ranged weapons (bows, crossbows, and guns) can now use a variety of illusions in transmog.
